WASHINGTON A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.
Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.
A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.
Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks! Looking good. Tunnel worthy. ;-]
It was so bad he couldn’t use his normal limo. Had to take an SUV.
Yup, the snow pack in the mountains in the Rogue Valley is like 60% below normal, it’s going to be another bad irrigation year.

So, let me understand this; God made winter to keep the popoulation up?
I’m heading out to pick up a couple of illegal aliens to shovel my driveway. [/s]
I hope it keeps snowing in D.C., our nation seems to operate better when Washington is closed down..
We are at 3000’ in Tucker County and have 30”+ and still snowing. The roads are passable but I would not want to travel any distance as it would be slow progress.
Behind every cloud is a silver lining.
Up north of you a bit (southern Vancouver Isl), we’ve had a bit of snow, but the 3” was gone within a couple of days.
I have an insane rhododendron that is in full bloom, my daylilies are coming up in droves, the roses are budding out, the hawthorns are showing early leaves, and it’s only February! I even have a few daffodils showing their ugly mugs already!
I ...ALMOST... feel sorry for DC, but then again, it looks good there rather than here! < VBEG > I’m just ecstatic that we’ve avoided all the ugly weather so far.
Thank you for posting a pic. Don’t know why no one is posting them on twitter and facebook... I’d be a picture-takin-and-postin FOOL if I was there. :)
Always for a conservative patriot--none for those whacked out leftists.
Think of all those senators and congressman stranded in the capital without food or power for a week or so... heh heh heh...
I want one!
Obamaninable snowman ping?
Alert! Alert!
Sunshine peeking through in central MD!
Alert! Alert!
Or due to the complete lack of sunspot activity the past 2 years.
LOL!
Wow! I wonder how bad the blizzard would be if we didn’t have Global Warming going on — maybe it would get to 60 inches of snow instead of only 30 inches. /sarc off...
Sounds like an idiot, but... my late husband, a Michigan boy, liked to walk in all kinds of weather. This lady’s coupon would have just given him an excuse to go out in the weather for a walk.
Getting lost on Connecticut Ave takes some doing though. Why not just walk straight down Connecticut and then make a turn on your street? How do you get lost in DC? (DC native speaking here)
