Tea Party Fireworks: Speaker Rips McCain, Obama, 'Cult of Multiculturalism' (Tancredo slams McCain)

Ex-Rep. Tom Tancredo Suggests 'Civics, Literacy Test' Would Have Foiled Obama's Election; High-Priced National 'Tea Party' Convention Stirs Debate Among Factions.

BY STEVEN PORTNOY & JOHN BERMAN

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 4, 2010.

The opening-night speaker at first ever National Tea Party Convention ripped into President Obama, Sen. John McCain and "the cult of multiculturalism," asserting that Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country."

The speaker, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told about 600 delegates in a Nashville, Tenn., ballroom that in the 2008 election, America "put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House ... Barack Hussein Obama."

Tancredo did not stop at the Democratic president -- ripping McCain, R-Ariz., the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, for shaping up to be a repeat of "Bush 1 and Bush 2."

"Thank God John McCain lost the election," he said, voicing his belief that McCain would have presided over big budgets and lacked a tough stand against immigration.

Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to immigration. He believes the 2008 election served to galvanize the right.

"This is our country," he told the crowd. "Let's take it back."

If you've read her facebook articles, 'coming through with flying colors' is all she's done. But I'd bet you haven't read a single one. Talk about myopic. Tell me, what other GOP big wigs have managed to get a member of the Obama admin to apologize based on a facebook article?

Answer: none.

The fact you completely overlook her influence, let alone political power, says more about you than any Palin fan.

No one has a magic eight ball that predicts the future.

We do what we have always done. Look at past actions and try to determine a pattern for the future.

Sarah's past is pretty solid and inline with conservative principles. Pro-life. Pro-RKBA. Low tax. Smaller Government. Constitution. Property Rights. Etc...

Most of the rest are either Bigger Government RINO's or "Moderate" liberals in GOP clothing.

There are others who are in the same league, Thune, Jindal, etc... But none that are as prominent on the National stage.

Got a better candidate? Let's hear it...

You completely ignored my observation.
Endorsing McCain was a terrible decision.
Definitely makes me question her judgement.
She is very solid in many areas, I agree.
That does not mean you don't acknowledge
serious concerns. Ignoring issues like that
is what the Obama (cult-like!) followers do.

Endorsing McCain was a terrible decision.

She is no longer beholden to McCain should she later on run for Pres. Her debt to him is paid now when the cost is much lower than it might be later.

I'd call that pretty damn smart.

You don't play a lot of strategy games do you...

The only problem I have with “let’s take it back” talk is that that was the rallying cry of the leftists that put this menace in the WH.

I think Tancredo is a good leader for the TPM.

I see ABC got the talking points from the ABC...about dividing TeaParty and GOP.

First story on the TeaParty. Is it about the movement? Why it was big enough to spur a victory in deep blue Mass.?

No, it’s on divide and conquer, straight from the DNC talking points.

MessNBC doing their part also, as they hit on keynote speaker Sarah Palin negative hit job on Todd Palin...some emails.

“Lotsa luck finding candidates more conservative than Tancredo.”

I love Tom Tancredo so much I even sent him $100 when he first started campaigning. I really wish he had been able to get some momentum back then.

Lotsa luck finding candidates more conservative than Tancredo.

I happen to personally know Tom, and known him for quite number of years.

I like him as a person, but no longer trust him as a politician.

I know a great number of men that would stand up for the truth of God's Word in public office.

mccain, romney, tancredo are all has-beens. *YAWN*

but at least mccain chose Palin as a runningmate, way more than any of the other three have done on behalf of the conservative movement.

Palin 2012. :)

Whether she gets the nod or not, I don’t think the people will vote for a Black (sorta) person and then a woman in consecutive elections. She may be a 2016/2020 candidate.

but i’m still somewhat glad Mccain lost. Yeah things are bad under Obama, but Tancredo’s right...now Palin is able to tell it like it is. :) Obama madness may well be the best thing to happen to conservatives—and therefore America in years. We will see come 2010 and beyond.

The fact he thinks he is the leader is pretty shameful.

He sold out 08 to Obama. Gave him the election.

When Bob Dole was “given” the nomination by the GOP for his years of service, at least he put on a fight.
