Ex-Rep. Tom Tancredo Suggests 'Civics, Literacy Test' Would Have Foiled Obama's Election; High-Priced National 'Tea Party' Convention Stirs Debate Among Factions.
BY STEVEN PORTNOY & JOHN BERMAN
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 4, 2010.
The opening-night speaker at first ever National Tea Party Convention ripped into President Obama, Sen. John McCain and "the cult of multiculturalism," asserting that Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country."
The speaker, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told about 600 delegates in a Nashville, Tenn., ballroom that in the 2008 election, America "put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House ... Barack Hussein Obama."
Tancredo did not stop at the Democratic president -- ripping McCain, R-Ariz., the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, for shaping up to be a repeat of "Bush 1 and Bush 2."
"Thank God John McCain lost the election," he said, voicing his belief that McCain would have presided over big budgets and lacked a tough stand against immigration.
Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to immigration. He believes the 2008 election served to galvanize the right.
"This is our country," he told the crowd. "Let's take it back."

B T T T !
That's true, he never could have passed it.
Oh, wait, he meant for voters?
Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to ILLEGAL immigration.
There fixed it...
Tom Tancredo used to be my Congressman here in the 6th CD of Colorado. He was somebody that you could always count on.
until...
He sided with George Bush and voted to pass the stimulus bill.
I will never lift a finger to help his career in any way again.
He wasn’t in congress to pass the stimulus bill. I think you’re referring to TARP.
I must point out..bush Tarp and Obama’s TARP are two different things...
Bush’s was in the form of LOANS...
Obama’s was in the form of “purchased equity”
I didnt have a problem with loans...I have a HUGE problem with Govt leverage buyouts...

OK...next January, not this November. My mistake. I’m just getting a lil too excited I guess.
And both were flagrantly unconstitutional!
There should be one set of rules for everybody.
As for the TARP “loan”, based on what I saw, a lot of that money went to bonuses for corporate executives who should have been fired.
I believe in free enterprise and capitalism. I believe in the right to succeed without government interference and to fail without government interference.
Bush was no conservative and he did a lot of screwy things. TARP was one of them.
As for Obama - the less said the better - he's a Bolshevik.
Tancredo was wrong on supporting TARP, but otherwise right on most everything else.
John McCain is a disgrace and I lost a lot of respect for Palin when she came out in support of this twisted, vicious venomous, RINO thug.
From your mouth to God’s ears.

If only! Really like to see him retired by JD.
And someone please put a sock in that little piglet daughter of his.
“Would the Feds loan tax-payer dollars to a private store-owner down the street to keep him from losing his business through poor management? I doubt it.”
Ever heard of the SBA?
and you are bluring the timeline....
Bush didnt write the legislation...the dem majority did...DODD put in the bonus waiver..
And sorry...I wont throw Gov palin under the bus for supporting McCain...
“Ever heard of the SBA?”
Yeah. And if they loan my tax dollars out to corrupt inefficient business as did the TARP deal, they need to go out of business.
“and you are bluring the timeline....
Bush didnt write the legislation...the dem majority did...DODD put in the bonus waiver..”
And WHO SIGNED IT????
“Read my lips, no new taxes” doesn’t fall far from the tree.
“And sorry...I wont throw Gov palin under the bus for supporting McCain...”
Didn’t say I threw her under the bus. Just said I lost a lot of respect for her - it was a damn stupid thing to do.
Thanks for the ping.
Was it unconstitutional to give chrysler a loan in the 80s?
