Tea Party Fireworks: Speaker Rips McCain, Obama, 'Cult of Multiculturalism' (Tancredo slams McCain)

Ex-Rep. Tom Tancredo Suggests 'Civics, Literacy Test' Would Have Foiled Obama's Election; High-Priced National 'Tea Party' Convention Stirs Debate Among Factions.

BY STEVEN PORTNOY & JOHN BERMAN

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 4, 2010.

The opening-night speaker at first ever National Tea Party Convention ripped into President Obama, Sen. John McCain and "the cult of multiculturalism," asserting that Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country."

The speaker, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told about 600 delegates in a Nashville, Tenn., ballroom that in the 2008 election, America "put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House ... Barack Hussein Obama."

Tancredo did not stop at the Democratic president -- ripping McCain, R-Ariz., the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, for shaping up to be a repeat of "Bush 1 and Bush 2."

"Thank God John McCain lost the election," he said, voicing his belief that McCain would have presided over big budgets and lacked a tough stand against immigration.

Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to immigration. He believes the 2008 election served to galvanize the right.

"This is our country," he told the crowd. "Let's take it back."

I’m waiting for the dems to accuse Tancredo of wanting to reinstitute Jim Crow.

Perhaps the term Marxists or Stalinist is a better description than Bolshevik.

You’re responding to a conservative showing the kind of rare leadership that no others have had the courage for but that all of us know is the only way to save our country from communist death.

And your response is to try to convince others not to support this conservative?

Maybe you can manage to contradict yourself, like when you said Palin, as a woman, was biblically destined for leadership and a year later saying we shouldn’t support her, as a woman, on biblical grounds.

You said this:

“GOD chose Governor Palin for the VP slot. McCain was just the vessel that He used.”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2076374/posts?page=46#46

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2076375/posts?page=31#31

“We need to pray that God uses Sarah Palin as a modern day Deborah to bring our nation to repentance.” -politicket
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2076375/posts?page=9#9

“Too bad that Governor Palin is not at the top of the ticket...” -politicket
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2070917/posts?page=4#4

“Sarah Palin is a present day Debra. The men of this country are doing what is right in their own eyes and God has appointed a woman to lead them.” -politicket
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2070888/posts?page=37#37

Then this:

“The Bible is very clear about the roles of leadership. It has been my point all along that Sarah Palin should only run for political office if there is no righteous Christian man left in this country. This has nothing to do with Sarah Palin. I admire many of her political positions. It’s simply a challenge to Christian men that we need to stop having Christian women fight the battles for us.”

At this point I doubt your general sincerity on this website.

We need to vigorously support people like Tancredo when they make public statements like this.

I know the feeling. My Rep voted for the first bail-out bill. I sent him a scathing letter. He responded with a canned letter, but he did write a brief personal note that that would be the last one he would (or did) vote for.

Recently, he has decided to challenge Sen. Blanche Lincoln. He is about the 5th Republican challenger who has expressed interest, since any/all of them are polling multiple points ahead of Lincoln. Many are expecting her to 'retire' in the near future, as her re-election is very much in doubt.

Good to see Tancredo back in action....

And he is so right about McCain. There is little difference in Obama and McCain....only an idiot or Michael Steele’s butler thinks that McCain was the opposite of Obama on the issues.

Tancredo was the one I supported for the GOP nomination in 2008. Too bad the GOP media (Fox News, talk radio) immediately tried to marginalize him after he announced his campaign (hich should tell everyone that FNC and most of talk radio is not really conservative...they did the same to Duncan Hunter, too)

Removing McCain from the US Senate would be the #1 Conservative success in 2010

Shut up, Tancredo. You lost all credibility when you dropped out and endorsed Romney.

For for ripping McCain, another collaborated effort to put the pressure on Sarah.

Of course, she'll come through with flying colors.

Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to ILLEGAL immigration.

There fixed it...

Tancredo was also against flooding the country with 'guest workers' .

So did many on FR. And so did FR.

I couldn't, wouldn't, didn't, won't. [And that does not mean I supported the Dem candidate, either.]

[I do hope Hayworth can unseat him, but it is next to impossible for a same-party challenger to unseat an incumbent. McCain holds too many political i.o.u.'s. from his friends.]

There’s certainly no doubt that the tea parties are a direct result of Obama’s election. A McCain election would have been 4 to 8 more years of continuing to skid leftward and there would be no hope on the horizon.

Uh, if you will check the record, Tancredo has for many years pushed for a halt to all immigration to this country except for what is necessary to keep families together.

With the worst possible terms available.
