Poll of Republicans Met With Shock, Skepticism

Poll of Republicans Met With Shock, Skepticism

(Feb. 3) -- Most Republicans think Barack Obama is a socialist and Sarah Palin is more qualified than him to be president. Most either think Obama wasn't born in the U.S. or aren't sure. Nearly 40 percent want him impeached. Those are a few of the results in a Daily Kos poll that's shaking up the blogosphere.

The liberal Web site commissioned Research 2000 to survey more than 2,000 self-identified Republicans last month. Site founder Markos Moulitsas -- the "Kos" in Daily Kos -- called the results "nothing short of startling."

A few more nuggets from the poll:

21 percent believe the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) stole the 2008 election and 55 percent aren't sure.

31 percent believe Obama is a racist who hates white people and 33 percent aren't sure.

23 percent want their state to secede from the U.S. and 19 percent aren't sure.

Only 26 percent favor letting openly gay Americans serve in the military.

67 percent believe the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ.

On his blog, Politico's Ben Smith said the poll was conducted "more or less with the goal of making Republicans look extreme" and "does a pretty good job of that." Daily Kos responded Wednesday, "Actually, the poll just asked questions of self-identified Republicans. The answers made Republicans look extreme."

"If this poll is accurate (and Research 2000 has a good reputation for accuracy), the Republican base has an absurdly high percentage of wackos of all stripes, from religious fanatics to creationists to secessionists to conspiracy theorists," said Charles Johnson on Little Green Footballs.

in my camp and regard Obama as a fascist rather than a socialist.

Or in mine and regard him as an islamo-fascist communist.

In 1998, in North Carolina, 66 percent of registered Republican female voters (who actually voted) cast their votes for John Edwards for U.S. Senate.

And that just goes to show you how snapshots are not motion pictures. (Yes, as a matter of fact, the camera does lie.)

OK... I’ll bite:

Impeaching Obama: No, though while it would be nice, there’s no basis for a conviction at this time.

ACORN stole the 2008 election: No. They did do their usual shenanigans in Illinois and other places, but I don’t think it accounted for the whole difference.

Obama is a racist who hates white people: He’s a racist, yes. Hate white people? Not so much... he’s just an opportunist and he’s leveraging his race identity for all it’s worth.

state to secede from the U.S.: No. Not alot of point in that. I’m in WA, and that just wouldn’t work out like I’d want.

letting openly gay Americans serve in the military: I’d rather not, but I’m caring less and less anymore. I don’t think it matters all that much. The military has one mission. Whatever serves that end, is good. They should ignore everything else. It’s not a social laboratory.

the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ: Why would a bunch of liberals need to know what my opinion is on that? Does it really matter to them?

Was he? No one knows.

PJ, I thought I might DUFU this tonight, but it’s too late, and in the morning I leave for Orange County, California, for a few days. So I probably won’t be DUFU till midweek next week.

Thanks for the concern but if you wish to prove the margins Obama won by were concocted by ACorn be my guest. I hpwever think it’s pretty damn obvious when you put up someone the base despises and who despises you back there will be problems with bringing out voters to your favor. I think when Republicans screw you one too many times and Freepers openly talk about sitting out the election there might be a problem with getting their votes. I think when you have liberals penly besotted with Obama that usually vote Republican like Parker, Brooks, etc...you have a problem with your voting base. This doesn’t even apply to the millions of people besotted by the idea of electing a minority.

So no I don’t think I’m wrong to trust the election results. I refuse to be like the people who can’t let 2000 ago especially when the vote differential was far larger here.

"...an absurdly high percentage of wackos of all stripes, from religious fanatics..."

So if we believe Jesus at His own word we are religious fanatics?

At least we understand each other just that little bit more.

Hey SS...meant no harm with my comment. While I certainly agree with much of what you say, I firmly believe there is widespread, rampant voter fraud and have been tracking it for 5 years.

There are many places where you will find ample proof of vote fraud.

This article claims we are looking at potentially 9.2 million fraudulent votes and no addition was made for ACORN, which would push the total higher. Only 9.5 million votes separated McCain from Obama.

Are you familiar with the George Soros Secretary of State Project?

There is, of course, much more.

You know—it doesn’t pay to get too confident. Maybe we need to be a little more circumspect-—and pray a lot.....

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So??...I am confused. Why are the Democrats bring this topic up now? There was a Mother Jones article recently. The Democratic headquarters sent out a memo to its members to question Republican candidates on Obama’s birth certificate. Am I correct that the Obama boot licker Bill OReilly was talking about today, and now this poll? Huh?

All this does is stir up curiosity about the matter by those who may not know that there ever was ( or is) a question about Obama’s eligibility.

It just doesn't make sense.

Seemingly progressives maintain that the right of women to choose abortion is enumerated in the Bill of Rights, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms isn't. While conservatives maintain the opposite.

Why don't we read the Bill of Rights and find out who is correct and who is crazy?
