Poll of Republicans Met With Shock, Skepticism
(Feb. 3) -- Most Republicans think Barack Obama is a socialist and Sarah Palin is more qualified than him to be president. Most either think Obama wasn't born in the U.S. or aren't sure. Nearly 40 percent want him impeached. Those are a few of the results in a Daily Kos poll that's shaking up the blogosphere.
The liberal Web site commissioned Research 2000 to survey more than 2,000 self-identified Republicans last month. Site founder Markos Moulitsas -- the "Kos" in Daily Kos -- called the results "nothing short of startling."
A few more nuggets from the poll:
21 percent believe the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) stole the 2008 election and 55 percent aren't sure.
31 percent believe Obama is a racist who hates white people and 33 percent aren't sure.
23 percent want their state to secede from the U.S. and 19 percent aren't sure.
Only 26 percent favor letting openly gay Americans serve in the military.
67 percent believe the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ.
On his blog, Politico's Ben Smith said the poll was conducted "more or less with the goal of making Republicans look extreme" and "does a pretty good job of that." Daily Kos responded Wednesday, "Actually, the poll just asked questions of self-identified Republicans. The answers made Republicans look extreme."
"If this poll is accurate (and Research 2000 has a good reputation for accuracy), the Republican base has an absurdly high percentage of wackos of all stripes, from religious fanatics to creationists to secessionists to conspiracy theorists," said Charles Johnson on Little Green Footballs.

It seems to me that liberls are "extreme."
I wonder what percentage of all the people of Kenya believe he was born in Kenya. More than "most"?
Well, I am indeed an extremist by Daily Kos criteria. Of course they are communists by mine.
They quoted Charles? LOL
“But unless you have evidence that something is actually wrong with the poll, what can you possibly say? You can be suspicious of Kos, but that’s not an argument,” Adesnik conceded.
“
Yes it is. Okay, let me put it this way. If FreeRepublic hooked up with a pollster and came up with some results they didn’t like...wpuld FR be dismissed? Of course we would. Even though it’s saner here then it there. The one thing we do have in common is we’re agenda based. In Kos’ case they want to paint Republicans/conservatives out of the mainstream so the poll was designed to help them fullfill that agenda. Although I don’t think Jim do that for the sake of the cause as it’s a shady thing to do.
Having said all of this, some of those are not extreme. Palin is more qualified then Obama. It’s factual. You aren’t going to Heaven just by being a “good” person. Factual.
But Do I believe Acorn stole the election...No.
I gather the question was “Do you think Obama is a socialist?” so we don’t get a break down of how many of the “No” respondents were in my camp and regard Obama as a fascist rather than a socialist.
You did know there are Freepers who are either Roman Catholic or Holy Roller (and everything in between) who have Buddhist and Hindu inlaws or relatives ~ and they deal with that every day ~ and aren't particularly bothered by it.
There's a great deal of religious, ethnic and racial intermarriage in this country, and the last thing you want to tell your new mother-in-law at a wedding reception is "Did you know you're going to Hell because you don't accept Jesus" ~ or, maybe you'd do that ~ most everybody else doesn't.
Taking a step back up the ethnoreligiousgroup crossings to a different generation, you have folks raised by people who grew up Zen Buddhist but who became High Church Episcopalean.
The "One Way" computation is not the biggest problem to be faced in their spiritual journey Fur Shur.
As long as those folks vote Republican I'm happy, and you should be too. Remember, if Jesus came back today he'd register as a Republican.
Another unbiased, non partisan poll from our friends at DailyKos.....
I’m wacko if thinking that the czar who thinks pets should be able to sue their owners is wacko.
ROFLMAO, look at Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts. I would say RATs better bend over and kiss their rears goodbye. They’re TOAST. They can call us extreme 24/7, but We The People intend to clean the sewer that is Congress. They can take their polls hourly until November. The TSUNAMI is rolling.
I don't know if he was born here or not. I have no way of knowing, nor does anyone else. But, I have to wonder why, if he was born here, he does not produce the proper identification (long-form birth certificate) to prove it. The mere fact that he refuses to provide such proof is the main reason so many doubt his origin.
Suppose you are pulled over by a police officer for speeding, and he says, "May I see your driver's license, please?" You reply, "I have one." He repeats, "May I see it?" Again, your answer is, "I have one." Would the cop be crazy to believe that you might be lying???
WELL SAID! I’m with you on the extreme front!
There is probably no better indication of people being sane than to be called “wackos” by Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs.
no real birth records, no college records, no work history before being a senator for a few months, Whos really the nut in this matter, supporters or doubters?
Anyway....I think the results are pretty mainstream America...IMHO, everything else is the pervert fringe...
I’m an Independent, but I fall in line with most of the Republican answers. Guess I’m a wacko now!
Then perhaps you should look closer.
