Statement from James O'Keefe
BigGovernment.com ^ | Jan 29, 2010 | James O'Keefe

Posted on 01/29/2010 8:29:50 AM PST by BAW

The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu’s office. Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines. Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false.

As an investigative journalist, my goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions, as I did last year when our investigations revealed the massive corruption and fraud perpetrated by ACORN. For decades, investigative journalists have used a variety of tactics to try to dig out and reveal the truth.

I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu’s constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn’t want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill. When asked about this, Senator Landrieu’s explanation was that, “Our lines have been jammed for weeks.” I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for “weeks” because her phones were broken. In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu’s district office – the people’s office – to ask the staff if their phones were working.

On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building. The sole intent of our investigation was to determine whether or not Senator Landrieu was purposely trying to avoid constituents who were calling to register their views to her as their Senator. We video taped the entire visit, the government has those tapes, and I’m eager for them to be released because they refute the false claims being repeated by much of the mainstream media.

It has been amazing to witness the journalistic malpractice committed by many of the organizations covering this story. MSNBC falsely claimed that I violated a non-existent “gag order.” The Associated Press incorrectly reported that I “broke in” to an office which is open to the public. The Washington Post has now had to print corrections in two stories on me. And these are just a few examples of inaccurate and false reporting. The public will judge whether reporters who can’t get their facts straight have the credibility to question my integrity as a journalist.

GOOD!

To be falsely accused is a terrible thing.

However, to be falsely accused can lead to great things, if you don’t back down!

His explanation makes sense to me. The govt accusations did not.

This should make an excellent show trial! I highly recommend that Holder’s office arrange for a high exposure public trial in lower Manhatten to properly address this egregious breech of justice!

If they posed, it’s wrong.

But, good to hear him rebut everything else.

If this had been Michael Moore dropping in on a Republican’s office to see why his constituent’s were unable to reach him, all would be forgiven by now, and the Republican Senator would be the object of invective and ridicule for the heavy handed suppression of Moore’s First Amendment rights.

I'll never forget the folks on the Original Thread who couldn't wait to throw this kid under the bus... after everything he risked his neck to do.

If you really want to know why we lose, that thread is a perfect example.

I think the defense will call David Shuster and Keith Olbermann as witnesses. Their hysterical reporting should be evidence that it is impossible for O’Keefe to get a fair trial. Since MSNBC has such an enormous % of TV viewers, the jury pool has obviously been biased and contaminated by the false accusations of ‘wiretapping’ that MSNBC, the AP, and Wash Post made.

Did he or did he not break any laws? From the sound of his explanation I’d take it he holds that they didn’t, because they weren’t misrepresenting to tamper/break in/bug anything.

But if they didn’t break any laws I’d like them to say so explicitly, and if they did break the law—then they do deserve what the law-breaking brings.

I’d take it there is legitimate basis to the feds holding the videos—or he’d say that there isn’t?

“Why did he go to a wiring closet? Or did he?”

That would be the point of crossing the line if it was done.
Nothing wrong with going into the offices. But going into the equipment closets would be a no no.

I would like to see his tapes; I don't believe anyone in today's world.
