On the eve of the fullest moon of the year, NASA scientists were told they won't be able to visit any longer. In his new budget, President Obama plans to eliminate the space program's manned moon missions.

When the president releases his budget on Monday, a White House official confirmed on Thursday, there will be a big hole where funding for NASA's Constellation program used to be. Constellation is the umbrella program that includes the Ares rocket -- the replacement for the aging space shuttles.

NASA will receive an additional $5.9 billion over five years, some of which will be used to extend the life of the International Space Station to 2020. The official said it also will be used to entice companies to build private spacecraft to ferry astronauts to the space station after the space shuttle retires.

But, I bet we'll still be giving free condoms to high school kids with federal money, no doubt.

At one time, this decision would have had serious electoral consequences in FL. I’m not sure if NASA employs enough people anymore to make a difference in that state now.

Barry is a dumb-ass! The money does not wind up on the moon, it creates jobs and has proven to be a stimulant to the economy, especially when the procurement involves vendors from all states - and like Apollo, will have beneficial spin-offs.

Barry ZERO logic:

If it’s good for the US Economy, National Security or image, Kill it.

If it will do damage to the US Economy, National Security or image, Make sure it gets enacted.

I want to wretch.

And gets rid of out space superiority.

Also kills our future space defense capabilities...he is wiping out our star wars defenses that we will need in the future.

The amount of info garnered by NASA is what gave America a huge edge in technologies.... right down to the basic computer.

I am sure 0bozo has no problems at all handing out tax dollars to gay, lesbian and and trans-gender groups out there.
What a total waste of space 0bozo is.
By the time this America-hating communist is finished with his 4 year term, this country will be lucky to have sank as low as a third world dictatorship.

You have to remember, NASA employment itself isn’t the only space-related driver of the local economy, especially on the east coast. Tourism to watch shuttle launches is the other HUGE driver. Without it, most of those restraunts and hotels out there will not survive. It was bad enough when they were facing a gap to the next spacecraft, now that there basically won’t be one at all, there’s no hope at all for those businesses.

This is a heart breaker for me and likely will do the kind of short and long term damage to the country obama seem to love best.

On the other hand, NASA is tainted and corrupted by Hansen and his like minded GW charlatans and if this hurts them and they go elsewhere, that would be a bonus.

"4,600 of the brightest and best.....something Odumbo hates"

I wonder if the Chinese, Indians or Russians will be willing to hire our NASA engineers and scientists? This is one of those decisions which will have enormous consequences for the future of the USA - far beyond its immediate economic impact. We are voluntarily giving the future away, just as Obama intends.
