Former Obama economic advisor, Clinton Secretary of Labor, and Berkely Prof. Robert Reich claimed yesterday in his column at Salon.com that Fox News played a role in the conservative resurgence of 1994:
In December 1994, Bill Clinton proposed a so-called middle-class bill of rights including more tax credits for families with children, expanded retirement accounts, and tax-deductible college tuition. Clinton had lost his battle for healthcare reform. Even worse, by that time the Dems had lost the House and Senate. Washington was riding a huge anti-incumbent wave. Right-wing populists were the ascendancy, with Newt Gingrich and Fox News leading the charge. Bill Clinton thought it desperately important to assure Americans he was on their side.
But Prof. Reich overlooked one minor detail: Fox News Channels first broadcast wasnt until October 7, 1996.
The plan for FNC wasnt even outlined until January of 1996, so what could explain such a patently false claim? Is the professor suggesting that even in 1994, Fox News imminence did in fact play a role in the political upheaval of that year? Or is this a moment where Fox Derangement Syndrome enters the realm of full-blown paranoia?
Either way, where was Salon on this one to save Reich from himself? And would Prof. Reich tolerate fact-checking this poor from his college students?
He’s so short I bet you can see his feet on his driver’s license photo.
YOU LIE reich.

Another genius of smart - SOOOO much smarter than the rest of us - we are too STOOOPID to get ANY of this - OOOOOH, they know SO much more than we do!
Austrians speak Austrian; 57 states; “Stand up , Joe..”;etc.
Oh, SO much smarter than the rest...
Yup. Marxiana is at war with Foxia. Marxiana has ALWAYS been at war with Foxia.
HA HA... the little dunce. btw love the way Rush says his name.
A strategy which seems to work for some of the population
“Is this like when Obama sez that the 1965 Selma March set in motion events ... that got him born in 1961?”
I seen something similar to this happen in a movie called “The Terminator”. It is where Kyle Reese who is John Conner’s father travels back in time from 2029 to 1984 and meets Sarah Connor.
He’s too short to have a clear view of something that long ago.
like the woman who showed up at the office one morning, visibly upset. When asked why, she said “a man in the elevator said I used I lovely scented shampoo.” When told that didn’t seem too rude, she added “he was a midget.”
Thanks. That’s an excellent distinction. And I would agree that it’s worse than lying.
No Obama is John Connor who is suppose to save us from the Machines (Banks, Freedom, Democracy). Kyle Reese was who ever Obama’s dad is. The T-800 model 101 could be Hannity, Rush, Freepers, and anyone who has identified this fraud from the very beginning.
Hey, why would anyone expect a member of the Troll Nation to get pesky facts correct, especially history. I mean after all, living under bridges and such makes for a pretty isolated environment. I tell you though, I’m pretty shocked to find out Trolls are hell bent on socialism, as there was one iota of his mentioned in any of the stories I ever read about Trolls. You know, if you can’t trust the Grimm Brothers, who can you trust?
Skit note for conservative SNL: recurring Robert Reich Troll character. Cross between Troll and Munchkin, named Robert Retch. Troll news correspondent who always sings proclamations in stuttering stretched-a munchkin-voice advocating latest Obama de jure positions. Introduced by fake TV anchor reporter as spokesperson/mayor of Trollville whenever commentary from Trollville is needed. Appears only on TV news show window screen from remote camera. Initial appearance always occurs by emerging from under a bridge. Backdrop would look like Berkeley Campus, and announced as appearing from University of Berkley. Character played by a little person.
Typical scenario involves straight introduction by TV news anchor, straight hello from Robert Retch, then the singing socialist commentary, followed by straight “Back to You” by Robert Retch.
Look people, this stuff just writes itself. We really, really, really need a conservative SNL.
To get our show started, find someone who wants to make big bucks from the idea and has a couple mil to start a production company. Assemble a troupe of unknown, up and coming comedians via national tryout. Writers optional, as probably a few hundred of us around the nation could keep them supplied with material forever. This would be like an open source code project, only it would be open source comedy writers. Just set up a web site to which contributions could be submitted. Eventually, though, to get the really great stuff, you need to have collaboration amongst groups of writers. This could be accomplished by holding regional workshops in which “the best of” submitters would be paid to attend comedy workshop collaborations.
This model could even be used for the comedians themselves, as selected guests or troups could be featured for a skit each week. There are large numbers of enormously funny folks out there.
So, you produce a few episodes, put them on youtube, wait until a few million views occur with clips shown on BOR, Hannity, and Greta, and then sit back for the network offers to pour in. That’s exactly how South Park got started (except without the BOR/Hannity/Greta part, which would be icing on the cake).
Reich is also a mental midget.
I remember they shared airtime with a country music station on my cable service.
Duh.
Maybe he was too busy watching rebroadcasts of FDR’s television speeches with Joe Biden at the time . . .
