Chavez Furiously Backtracking As Venezuela Petro-Economy Deteriorates

In anticipation of Thursday's Carabobo oil field auction, outspoken Marxist president Hugo Chavez quietly pleaded for foreign investment.

""Investment and experience from foreign oil firms is necessary in Venezuela. We need it," Chavez said, according to Dow Jones.

The statement is a serious turnaround for a government that has nationalized dozens of foreign oil companies in recent years. But they 'need' foreign investment because mismanagement is turning the country into just another failed petro-state.

This is also the second instance of Chavez backtracking today.

He seized all of their property and now wants investment? He’s out of his mind.

He seized all of the oil drilling rigs two years ago. These people are in business to make money, not support this twit’s revolution.

He’s toast. He will NEVER get an investor.

I hope no one is stupid enough to invest with him. No investments and 3 more months of drought ought to finish him off. Someone should post a “just $10 more donation to make Venezuela a paradise” line over at DU.

This is the guy 0bama and his pals all hang with. Strangely, both leaders, and Castro, among others, are Marxists in charge of hugely failing countries.

It seems a common theme that Marxism cannot work for long. As Ms. Thatcher put it, and I paraphrase, “Socialism only works until the government runs out of other peoples’ money.”

After you’ve screwed the very people and entities you took out (nationalizing, arresting, etc.), don’t expect people to come to your rescue.

May each horrible dictator rot in the darkest of places.

Ya, so some firm goes in there, invests billions to get the field up and running, and then this little tin pot Marxist will put a gun to their heads and steal it all from them.

No way. I wouldn't invest a penny in that country as long as this bastard is still sucking oxygen.

You don’t screw over Exxon-Mobil and ever expect that anyone is going to come to your rescue. Its over, the fat lady will soon be singing, who goes first, Iran or Venez?

I've stolen everything in Venezuela whether it was nailed down or not. Now I need investors to bring me more stuff to steal.

The vice president just resigned, as did the vice president’s wife who held another post in the cabinet.

I’d say its unraveling.

But, aren't investors = "evil capitalists". I guess the commies can just re-define the meaning of "investor"(?)

If he's looking for a sucker I recommend he give the White House a ring. They're pretty cozy with tyrants.

Don’t worry Hugo, your OPEC brethren will support you.

You remember OPEC - those same Arab states that want revenge for real and imagined slights against ‘Palestinians’ despite never offering the ‘Palestinians’ land or any sort of assistance beyond armaments.

It is funny to watch him beg, though. If I were playing at that level, I’d set up some high-level meetings (at their expense) to discuss some serious investment. Bring my top staff for a nice vacation in Venezueala at the finest hotels (at their expense). Spend a week or so and then tell Hugo, “We’ll be in touch”. In my town, I’ve watched nearly every Citgo station be transformed into a Shell station. Any little thing I can do to hurt this evil crazy SOB.

I’d say you’re right. Question now is...does he go out with a bang..or a whimper. I don’t see him going down without causing a real conflagration....unless an insider can take him out..
