Democrats are looking for someone to blame for their electoral woes — and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Robert Menendez is working hard to make sure it’s not him.
Showing that they’ve learned the lesson of Massachusetts, Menendez and his staff will distribute a memo Tuesday advising Democratic campaign managers to frame their opponents early — and to drive a wedge between moderate voters and tea-party-style conservatives.
“Given the pressure Republican candidates feel from the extreme right in their party, there is a critical — yet time-sensitive — opportunity for Democratic candidates,” the DSCC writes. “We have a finite window when Republicans candidates will feel susceptible to the extremists in their party. Given the urgent nature of this dynamic, we suggest an aggressive effort to get your opponents on the record.”
The memo urges Democratic candidates to force their opponents to answer a series of questions on health care, taxes and some of the favorite causes of the far right:
“Do you believe that Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen? Do you think the 10th Amendment bars Congress from issuing regulations like minimum health care coverage standards? Do you think programs like Social Security and Medicare represent socialism and should never have been created in the first place? Do you think President Obama is a socialist? Do you think America should return to a gold standard?”

They still don’t get it. No one trusts the Dems. People are not stupid they can see with their own eyes what is happening. Unfortunately, the Dems believe their own lies. We are a right of center country, they don’t understand that and they never will.
As long as they think that "tea party style conservatives" are not, using traditional norms, "moderate voters", they will continue to flail randomly.

Calling Ross Perot! They are right that we seem to self-destruct. My HOPE is that they have their own “Ross Perot” who challenges “the one” and divides their base.
I think the anti-amnesty position is even stronger now with our current economic environment. It would be pretty much political suicide to try it with 10%+ unemployment.
You make a good point. We need to make sure that we have one candidate to vote for after the primaries. As much as I disagree with Ron Paul on a host of issues, at least he goes through the Republican primary. If he doesn’t win the nomination, he refuses to split the vote by running Libertarian in the general election.
If there are any wedges being driven, John McCain will be involved.

That's what I was thinking. The people I know who call themselves moderates also consider themselves fiscal conservatives. What are tea partiers? Fiscal conservatives. Taxed Enough Already! A cause we can all agree on. Considering recent events we're also slowly steering the general feel of the populace to a 9/12 mood away from the 9/10 mentality that infects Obama and his leftists.
In my case I want representatives who represent the people who send them to Washington. Not representatives who feel their first loyalty is to a party.
I like their strategy.

Hopefully, Pub candidates everywhere paid attention to Scott Brown’s stunning upset campaign: stay on message.
It was amazing to watch Brown’s campaign. No matter what question he was asked, his answer was always the same; namely he hammered on four issues: cut taxes, cut deficit spending, get tough on terrorists, and kill the health care takeover bill.
I never once saw him respond to a single other issue. He defined himself and his issues. He did not let the opposition define him by suckering him into answering questions about tangential issues, so that they could then attack him for those answers. They could only attack him on his own four issues, which of course strongly resonate with the voters.
If every Pub will do what Scott Brown did, they stand a very good chance of winning.
