There are a lot of people who “get it”, more than we might think.

Why not just advertise the fact, and not actually do it?
The purpose is to freak out the enemy-no need to buy into their pagan superstitions. Actual porcine blood on the bullets might not be best for optimum operation of the weapons.

Ideally, no enemy should ever see the codes, since it would mean that he has the weapon. If, by some misfortune, he should have the weapon, the code should be meaningless to him, since it requires that he have some familiarity with the Christian Bible.
