Report: Obama Asks Pres. George W. Bush to Co-Lead Haiti Relief Effort With Bill Clinton
Thursday, January 14, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/14/2010 5:08:56 AM PST by kristinn

NBC's Chuck Todd reported on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' this morning that Barack Obama called former President George W. Bush last night to ask him to co-lead relief efforts for earthquake victims in Haiti along with Bill Clinton.

This would be in keeping with Bush asking Clinton and his father President George H. W. Bush to co-lead the relief efforts for the 2004 Sumatra tsunami.

Todd said the White House may wait a few days to make the announcement.

It makes me sick but I am convinced that President Obama is doing all of this because most of the Haitians are of African descent. Notice how quickely he has responded and how authentically his emotions register. He cares about this, as he did not care about Fort Hood or the panty bomber.

The man is reflexively racist and so is everyone he knows and trusts.

That said, President Bush might well do well to go along with it. The press will be watching for chances to criticize but I don’t think they’ll do so unless he provides them with a clear opening. People are too radicalized by the media lies over the last few years for them to dare being too obviously hypercritical.

My 2nd reply to this article:

To obama: My God man, are you going to step up to the plate and do ANYTHING during your presidency other than play golf and eat snow cones?

Bush already took the Presidential role in the Fort Hood shootings for you, while you piddled around with easy stuff.

If this job is just oo much for you - at least the work part - why don't you just resign? Is it that you won't have Air Force One at your disposal anymore? Are the perks the only thing that attracted you to this job? Maybe it's the public attention (which I might add, is dwindling fast).

This job doesn't work like other EEO jobs, you can't use your minorityship to get the job, and then leave the actual work up to others...you're at the apex now, and the world is looking (and most are laughing) at your clownish antics wondering "how the hell...?".

What's it going to be? If you were my employee you would have already been counseled three times and dismissed.

Todd said the White House may wait a few days to make the announcement.

Things change a whole lot in a few days. While I am happy to see Marines and other military deploying I suspect that the super aggressive action that needs to be taken very early in such situations has not been -- and by the attitude inherent in ;may wait a few days' -- is not happening. It will take discovery the awful way, to see what should have been done, and then it will be a mess.

Dead bodies rot, flies and vermin are not waiting. All the aid and guartermastering in the world isn't going to help unless the people most suffering there are marshaled into places where vermin and pestilence can be controlled and work teams set up and deployed to find and bury the dead.

I heard Bill Clinton last night on Greta -- he was concerned about holding the bodies until families can if them. Sorry, but that kind of wait is deadly. The bodies have to be buried quickly.

He will.

And he’ll get exactly ZERO credit and 100% of the blame, from this classless administration.

He’ll prolly bring Laura along, so they get to slap her around a little, just for good measure.

That said, they should still participate, if this request has been made. They would be representing the American people, after all.

I would be honored to be represented by them in this endeavor, as an American citizen. Their “down home” Texas warmth will be a sight for sore eyes, under these circumstances. GWB won’t be just shooting PSAs...he and Laura would be going down for person to person contact with the victims.

While the Obama crowd wouldn’t be caught dead doing the same...

By the time Bush 43 steps out in front of cameras, I hope he has Bush 41, Franklin Graham, Sarah Palin, and Dick Cheney beside him, and announces a new humanitarian endeavor fully prepared to cooperate with the US govt and to “work with” the leadership of the obama administration and the leadership of the UN

Then this group can focus on delivery of aid they raise through honest Christian and NGO organizations

I don’t think Obama cares about Haitians personally. What can they do for him? But he knows the world is watching. That being said, these people need our help and I am glad he is making sure they will get it. There are also about 45,000 Americans in Haiti and two of them are missionaries from my church. I think this is a huge disaster and these people are going to need help from around the world for a very long time. Would you be okay with America not responding?

Just a guess, but I’m thinking that due to her position in the administration (and her duties would include this) it is unnecessary.

He is asking people who are private citizens now to participate.

Since the names have been announced as being invited to assume the gigs, it means that Clinton and Bush have ALREADY said "yes".

That's how it works in the major leagues, folks.

Our advices to Bush are too late.

Bush will HAVE to say yes.

This is the same GWB who asked former presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr to head up the Tsunami disaster relief teams.

He can't refuse.
