Report: Obama Asks Pres. George W. Bush to Co-Lead Haiti Relief Effort With Bill Clinton
Thursday, January 14, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/14/2010 5:08:56 AM PST by kristinn

NBC's Chuck Todd reported on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' this morning that Barack Obama called former President George W. Bush last night to ask him to co-lead relief efforts for earthquake victims in Haiti along with Bill Clinton.

This would be in keeping with Bush asking Clinton and his father President George H. W. Bush to co-lead the relief efforts for the 2004 Sumatra tsunami.

Todd said the White House may wait a few days to make the announcement.

Is this the same George W. Bush... who doesn’t like black people?

It's the same George W. Bush that Africans believe helped their continent more than any other President.

This puts President Bush between a rock and a hard place. If he declines, he will be creamed by the media. If he does it, they are going to criticize the effort every step of the way (except those areas which are specifically handled by Clinton). It’s a lose-lose.

Axelrod: Hey Rahm, let’s put this crisis on Bush who doesn’t like black people, and Clinton who takes his coffee with cream and sugar

...ask him to co-lead relief efforts

Let me guess... as co-leader, Bush would help out by going to Haiti on Friday, since Clinton is tied up that day. It would be devastating if Clinton himself went.

let President Bush run the war on terror and let OBAMA fix Haiti

That is a most excellent idea!!!

This is going to alienate 0 even more from his base of supporters. After all, GWB is the man who “destroyed the world” isn’t he? A lot of dolts actually believe that.

I LOVE that idea! Let Obama go clean up in Haiti and Bush can continue cleaning up in the Middle East. Good one! First stop - Iran.

Bush didn't denigrate Clinton for a year after taking office...

On foreign soil no less.

George W. Bush will do whatever he is asked because: 1) he is a good Christian who cares deeply about the plight of other people; 2) he is not a hypocrite, like a lot of others inside the Beltway.

It is tempting to tell O. and his lackeys to take a hike (I probably would), but George Bush is a bigger man than that. He will do what he can to help.

We already have leadership arriving in Haiti. It’s called the US Marine Corps. All the leadership they’ll ever need!!!

They’re hoping he says no so they can paint him as a racist. After the way obama and the rats trashed him over the years, they don’t deserve his help with ANYTHING. Let the rats and hollywood open their wallets, hop on a plane and go clean up Haiti.

Don’t do it George. There is not enough Purell or Lysol in the world to get you through that.

This is ridiculous. Thousands of Marines are going in, Navy ships ordered to the area. National Guard from all over the USA being activated. Just a matter of days before maybe up to a million Haitian refugees start streaming out to sea and to the DR. And the Cubans and Venezuelans and Chinese start sending in troops.

There's a whole lot more here than raising money which is what Bush should graciously limit his role to doing

WHO’s the DECIDER???? OBAMA IS THE DECIDER. I see this as obama voting “present” and letting a real man deal with this

But that is not possible without a massive transfer of power and authority to a former President over US Govt agencies and resources- which AIN'T gonna happen.

Not only that, but if I remember correctly, he signed an EO soon after taking office immunizing Clinton against any legal moves against him.

To this day, I can’t recall GWB blaming Clinton for leaving our security apparatus weak, leading to 9/11.

I don’t think it’s right to make the tragedy in Haiti political. When I heard what Rush said yesterday, I was shocked. It does our side no good to talk like Rush did. These people need help and America will help, as will lots of other countries. I hate Obama but I can’t fault him for his actions thus far concerning Haiti. I hope Bush will help. I am proud that America comes to the aid of disasters.
