“Let me see your papers!” More and more Americans are feeling fearful of our government
The Collins Report ^ | December 31, 2009 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

Posted on 12/31/2009 6:05:25 AM PST by jmaroneps37

Those of us who grew up in the 1960’s remember old black and white movies made during World War II. We remember the ones about the Nazis usually had a sneering jerk in a black uniform and monocle confronting a “suspicious” civilian with the demand, “Let me see your papers!”

Seventy years later, we thought all of that was left behind, but according to a new Wenzel Strategies report, a growing number of Americans are becoming fearful American citizens might soon be challenged with this same chilling demand.

Very chilling stuff

Wenzel Strategies spoke to 823 likely voters over the weekend of December 18 to 21 and established a margin of error of 3.4%.

The timing of this survey makes its results still more significant for two clear reasons: first the nearness to Christmas should have people’s spirits high and hopeful; and second weekend polls usually reach more Democrats than Republicans.

If this was the case and a number of Democrats have come to this conclusion it adds extra weight to the importance of this finding.

This is the type of news that makes your stomach tighten because it is both overwhelmingly un-American for such a thing to happen here in the land of the free and the home of the brave, and a little voice tells you the 36% of Americans who feel this way might just be correct in their fear of Obama’s Administration.

Wenzel also observed that Republicans “get it.” At a rate of 73% Republicans now agree that “Our freedoms are decreasing under Barack Obama’s presidency.” This is a sharp increase from the 61% that felt this way just last month. Among Independents the month to month increase of fear of government jumped 7%.

Never in our lifetime have things been this scary

Weren’t doctors one of the groups that the “visitors” targeted as “terrorist supporters” because they were viewed as a threat to the “V’s”?

I agree with all that you have stated.

History shows we are being boiled like frogs in a pan.

It happened in Italy, Germany, Russia and it is happening here. In those previous places, there was a great wonderful military and leadership, that saved those peoples from themselves.

There will be no one to rescue us and there is nowhere left on earth to go for Freedom.

They want “our” papers, but they don’t blink at the Nigerian on the Delta/Northwest flight 253.

My mother didn’t join the Nazi party during the war. She tells of how she avoided the SS because she didn’t have ‘papers’. Once she was caught and sent to a work farm where she and another girl escaped by crawling through the open fields.
Right now, she’s having flashbacks. The Third Reich (National Socialist Workers Party) didn’t start out rounding up opponents but they eventually had to or else lose power.

And if you attempt to show any sheep leftist these perspectives of those that have been there, done that,

they simply go into “it can’t happen here because our people are better than the Nazis/Marxists/Stalinists” mode.

The “fear” needs to turn into anger and activism.

Is that before or after the JBT issues a ticket?

“Whenever I have tried to explain to my liberal friends...”
Sorry, but that’s part of the problem right there. Why are you friends with the enemy? Do you really think that they will do diddly squat for you when the brownshirts come to take you or your firearms? Do you?

I hear you, but as for me, I’d rather live in solitude than fraternize with the scum.
There have got to be conservatives up there. Keep looking, and good luck.

Never mind......let me see your papers.

It’s more like they are looking into our IRS records, our employment records, our health care records, our credit card information.

You name it, they’re busy snooping.

Too busy snooping to watch for terrorists it would seem.

the card will have a microchip

A couple seconds in a microwave set on "high" will take care of that pesky chip.

Technical note: Then as now, German polizei, of whatever stripe, would never say “Let me see your papers”, because that implies requesting permission. Instead they would say, “Show me your papers”, in that this is the more correct form for an order.

Interestingly, it is easy to adjust to the “ordered” German way of doing things, for three reasons.

First of all, German police do not, and will not, chit-chat with you. When they speak to you at all, they are ordering you to comply, even if they are asking you a question, they are demanding an answer. They demand obedience, and no arguments.

This compares favorably to the nebulous American police chit-chat, that could be just that, chit-chat; or it could be asking you an “honest” question; or it could be trying to deceive you or trick you into incriminating yourself. This is why it is *very* wise advice to never talk to (an American) policeman. They revel in “head games”.

So you can be more comfortable around a German polizei, because you know what his intentions are. However, you *must* comply with whatever a polizei orders you to do for a very good reason. There are almost *no* police brutality laws in Germany. If he orders you to do something, and you refuse, he may very likely hit you. He means it. American cops can’t do that.

But in turn, this is mitigated by the third principal, that the criminal penalties for police corruption in Germany are *severe*. Most German police are scrupulously honest and rigidly stick by the book, because the punishment they would face is truly awful. If a German cop goes bad, he is putting his life on the line.

This difference in philosophy is what most frightens Americans when there is talk of requiring them to carry papers. Because American police, if given powers like that, would be monsters. They would try to mess with the minds of everyone they met. They would confiscate and maybe destroy papers. They would use them to torment those they wanted to mess with.

What has long been used in Germany would not work in America.

The situation would be reversed in Germany if they eliminated all penalties for police corruption. It might take them a few weeks to get used to the idea of being dishonest, but then they would be equally monstrous to the German people.

Is the Bummer and his machine willing to do this?

God knows. He may simply be willing to crank the frog pot up another ten degrees or so. I hope a big ice cube from Alaska cools it down soon.

Germany is culturally like this, with a homogeneous makeup. In America it’s like herding cats.
