A White House official said the incident was an attempted act of terrorism. The FBI is investigating and President Obama, celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, was told of the incident about three hours after the plane landed, officials said.
Obama has told White House officials that all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel, a spokesman said. Nevertheless, officials said, they are not prepared to raise the terrorism alert level, currently at orange -- or the second-highest of five levels -- for domestic and international air travel.

For anyone who derided Bush for that, what did they expect him to do—hurl the book down and go screaming from the room? He wisely refrained from terrifying the teachers and kids in that room. Looking at videos from that day, you really can almost read the thoughts on his face. And at least the SS knew exactly where he was!

If he wasn’t missing, what was he doing that he couldn’t communicate with his staff? Okay, they’re incompetent when it comes to the security of the US.
They were exhausted by pressuring Senators to pass the healthcare bill and needed a break. Did O give everyone the day off?

yes because at Ft Hood is was our boys and girls in uniform while this today was a plane carrying mostly blacks and muslims. who are coming back home to Dearborn MI and Detroit

At first report of this with the “firecracker” slant, I got the feeling the MSM wanted to convey that this was about as dangerous as a sparkler lit up by someone who got Dec. 25th mixed up with the 4th of July!
this is more than just the Washington Post trying to cover for him. There is a report out of hawaii that his military aide claims he told Obama before the landing (or maybe it was as the plane was landing) at around 9 or 9:30 local time.
This is why time zones are important. I think someone screwed up on the time zone when making the cover story.If you go with the 1 pm landing - which is false- and detroit being central time - which is false..you get 9 am...
It is easy to think Detroit is central time given the closeness to Illinois...but it is EST.
Exactly right. When passengers came forward with details they had no choice but to call it what it is. There is no covering this one up. In fact, it may be related to the Fort Hood terrorist, Hasan. Some reports are that the Delta flight terrorist’s orders are out of Yemen and could be in retaliation for killing Hasan’s imam. Also, who was paying for this guy’s expensive digs in London.

Because this was linked directly to Al Qaeda. It’s a semantic game that they are playing. Bush at least recognized that Al Qaeda was not the only terrorist outfit in the game. That’s why he announced that any nation that harbored terrorist groups was to be treated as the enemy.
But, not only are there terrorist groups, there are lone wolf jihadists. These lone wolves have struck numerous times in the US. From the 19 year old son of a Bosnian mujihadeen who shot up the Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake City, to John Muhammed, the Beltway Sniper, to the guy who shot up Fort Hood, to the guy who shot up the El Al airlines counter in Los Angeles, to however many attacks on synagogues there have been. Their motives are exactly the same as Al Qaeda’s, but no one will call it what it is — radical Islamic terrorism.

There was nothing out of the ordinary until the flight was on final approach to Detroit, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said. That was when the pilot declared an emergency and landed at 11.51am local time.

“Suddenly, we hear a bang. It sounded like a firecracker went off,” said Jasper Schuringa, a film director who was traveling to the US to visit friends.
“When [it] went off, everybody panicked ... Then someone screamed, ‘Fire! Fire!’”
Schuringa, sitting in seat 20J, in the right-most section of the Airbus 330, looked to his left. “I saw smoke rising from a seat ... I didn’t hesitate. I just jumped,” he said.
Schuringa dove over four passengers to reach Abdul Mutallab’s seat. The suspect had a blanket on his lap. “It was smoking and there were flames coming from beneath his legs.”
“I searched on his body parts and he had his pants open. He had something strapped to his legs.”
The unassuming hero ripped the flaming, molten object — which resembled a small, white shampoo bottle — off Abdul Mutallab’s left leg, near his crotch. He said he put out the fire with his bare hands.
Schuringa yelled for water, and members of the flight crew soon appeared with fire extinguishers. Then, he said, he hauled the suspect out of the seat.
“I took him in a choke to the first class and all the people were like, ‘What’s going on?!”
“I don’t feel like a hero,” Schuringa told the Post as he recuperated with pals. “It was something that came completely natural ... It was something where I had to do something or it was too late.”
Your outrage is predicated upon the false premise that Barack Obama is the acting President. If it is any relief to you, I can assure you that President Axelrod was informed immediately of the incident.
