A White House official said the incident was an attempted act of terrorism. The FBI is investigating and President Obama, celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, was told of the incident about three hours after the plane landed, officials said.
Obama has told White House officials that all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel, a spokesman said. Nevertheless, officials said, they are not prepared to raise the terrorism alert level, currently at orange -- or the second-highest of five levels -- for domestic and international air travel.

Nothing to be ashamed of, really, most people don’t have a clue.
There are already protocols in place.
There are people not getting off shift and not going home tonight.
There is a lot going on and I don’t even have to have inside knowledge to understand that there are layers upon layers of actions underway right now as a matter of routine.

Sorta makes you wonder, under what circumstances would this president have been awakened?
Apparently the initial assumption now is not that an action like this one spoke but an isolated incident not worthy of any CIC action.

at that point..they had no way to know if more were coming or what was about to happen...
he should have been notified...so yeah, they should be asked how many incidents have to happen before someone tells the CIC.

Based on the article, the attacker was subdued in the air and taken into custody on the ground. He claimed to be part of a world wide terror organization but investigators could not verify those claims.
So based on this information you think that the president needs to immediately know that they don’t really know anything?
No confirmed terrorist attack, no confirmed ties to AQ, no significant injury or damage to the plane, crew or passengers....so what was there that was critical to tell the president that MAYBE the VP could have handled?

As I read the discussion about the three hours, I think that the issue is not so much that B.O. didn’t KNOW until three hours later. I think the deeper issue is the possibility that he was somehow INCOMMUNICADO for three hours. Whatever one thinks of Bush, no one could doubt that he hurt when our COUNTRY hurt. I always knew that he put America’s security first. SO WHAT if he took one or two more minutes to finish reading the goat book as he absorbed the unthinkable news being whispered in his ear. It didn’t matter because there was never any question of his allegiance. This is why those old-fashioned things like patriotism, birth certificates, school records, and associations really ARE important during elections, for they reveal the measure of the man. I think the bothersome issue is the lingering, persistent doubt about his ultimate loyalties.

What was Obama doing? Why wasn’t he in touch with his secret service?
One is left to wonder what procedure is now followed when something happens that in the past would receive immediate attention by presidents. Are there now instructions in place not to disturb the Great Leader unless Washington is under bombardment?
Or possibly is no one in charge, with no lines of authority, just a chaotic jumble of Obama buddies acting when they feel like it?
