Daily Presidential Tracking Poll (-16!)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | December 12, 2009 | Rasmussen

Posted on 12/12/2009 6:34:23 AM PST by Scanian

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 25% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16. That’s the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for this President (see trends).

The 25% who Strongly Approve matches the lowest level of enthusiasm yet recorded. That’s partly the result of declining enthusiasm among Democrats. While Democrats continue to offer their approval, just 43% Strongly Approve.

Among all voters, 36% now believe that the president is doing a good or an excellent job handling the economy while 45% rate his performance in this area as poor. Seventy-one percent (71%) of Democrats say he’s doing a good or excellent job on the economy while 74% of Republicans say poor. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 52% give the President poor marks when it comes to the economy.

On national security matters, 39% rate the president’s performance as good or excellent while 36% say poor. Most voters nationwide lack confidence that NATO will do its part to help in Afghanistan. The President’s new plan for Afghanistan draws mixed reviews from voters.

Check out our review of the week’s key polls to see “What They Told Us.”

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook.

Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove.

I think Nobama’s “popularity” is based in mental disease and dementia.

Does anyone else think that Americans will pretty much stop spending after Christmas and the whole economy will grind to an almost-halt?
+++++++++++++++++

And temps let go, which will smack down the TOO rosy take on the 11,000 jobs loss slowdown that BOR made such a fool of himself on recently.

I guess after talking to that little old lady I understand why so many didn’t know about this guy...they don’t have cable!

I didn't have cable until about 8 years ago.

I knew about Rush Limbaugh because he had a regular TV program for a while before going on radio.

I had never heard of Hannity or O'Reilly or Coulter or many of the other names.

When I did listen to radio in the work environment or while driving, it was usually a music station, not talk-radio. Most news came from papers or network TV.

Great links! thanks!

The other plots seem to corroborate my overlay in 119.

Jimmah and Obama seem to start at almost identical approve/disapprove, but Obama quickly dissipates.

What's also interesting is the slope flattens out during summers when nobody cares.

And it really shows a jump when there's an international crisis.

Bush jumped on 9/11 and even Jimmah got an initial boost during the Iram hostage Crisis (11/79). But it was fleeting.

I can see few surprises for Bammy on the downside, just looking at the trends.

I suspect he will track Jimmah to the slight downside, level off during the summers, and get minor boosts from the press pumping up his "accomplishments" such as passing/signing DeathCare etc.

I'm also expecting some kind of real or manufactured crisis internationally that we cannot predict (Iran/Israel, Terrorist Attack, Aliens Invade!, etc).

They will exploit it, and that will make or break his whole presidency, I think.

Imagine if the hostage rescue mission had succeeded, and the enerrgy crisis ebbed a little. Would perhaps Reagan even not been able to win the primaries?

BOR made such a fool of himself on recently.

Yeah. You're going to hear the popping noise in January (or early Feb) when BOR has to extract his cranium from its current location.

sam_paine: Looks like the exact crossover point from + to - for Ras’s wierd metric was exactly July 4.

Scanian: Town hall/tea party time

Right. And it’s *still* Tea Party time. Take nothing for granted!

So it’s not just me? Looks to me like that chart starts at 68% approve and 88% disapprove. Maybe I’m hung over from having dos cervezas with dinner last nite, but I’m having trouble making sense of it.

The following list ranks the 23 organizations by the accuracy of their final, national pre-election polls (as reported on pollster.com).

I like Rasmussen's total data and maybe even his methods, and he clearly is the most accurate Approve/Disapprove for vote prediction.

I do not think the "Strongly Approve - Strongly Disapprove" +/- daily number is meaningful, though. I think it's just a marketing product to draw attention to his website on a daily basis...not that there's anything wrong with capitalistic marketing of course!!!!

I guess I'm a "technical trader" when it comes to poll data. I'm interested in the long term trends, and don't put much stock in day-to-day variations. Sorry for the pun.

If I see a big downswing in any of the polls during next summer, I'll be surprised. If I see a huge uptick after passage of DeathCare or some other international disaster, I won't be surprised.

I don’t think Hussein was ever -15. He’s been -14 before, but this (-16) is at least a two-point jump from his previous low, I believe.

Wrong. Bozo has been -15 at least two days in a row, just recently(last month). I think his total -15 days are 3. Please do more research, Bozo has been trending down quite a while now.

+++++++++++++++

Actually Rush was on the radio way before TV (80s and nationally as early as 1990 or 1991 (? - going totally by memory here) with his political talk. Not sure if he was on TV when he announced for the KC Royals way back in the day.

“How’s Gibbs gonna spin it this time?!”

Gibbs reply:

“The President is not losing his Mojo. Despite the attacks and negativity coming from right wing extremists like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Dick Cheney, the President continues to be loved by people all over the globe and we must all work with each other to bring about the change that was promised when he was elected. It’s time we put an end to all this negativity.”

Rush went national in 1988. He was not a play by play guy for the Royals...he was in PR.
