What Defines an Organism? Biologists Say 'Purpose.'
ICR News ^ | December 10, 2009 | Brian Thomas, M.S.

Posted on 12/10/2009 8:12:50 AM PST by GodGunsGuts

David Queller and Joan Strassmann, evolutionary biologists at Rice University, recently proposed a new way to describe what makes an organism a unified whole. They defined an organism as an entity made up of parts that cooperate well for an overall purpose, and do so with minimal conflict. But how do parts like these get together, and where does purposeful behavior come from?...

This belongs in religion. It has nothing to do with defense of religious freedom.

Really. What if an organism for whatever reason can’t reproduce? Are you saying that it is no longer an organism?

Darwinism cannot admit to purpose as in direction since the whole foundation of Darwinism is chance and circumstance.

As Gould commented, if the the evolutionary clock could be set back and rerun everything in the world would look different since there is no direction or purpose to existence.

For that reason the Darwinist philosophy is also nihilistic, no reason for being here beyond happenstance, no reason for continued existence beyond self survival and then nonexistence.

Darwinism is also a materialistic philosophy in that cannot contemplate existence except for the sake of existence and any ideas beyond that are just part of the necessity of existence.

So I think if Darwinists start using words like purpose they'll be quick to explain no intelligence is implied.

"Magnets reproduce just by being near or sometimes rubbing each other.."

Splintering and gathering is not reproducing or consuming, it's sucking and sticking.

You didn't answer the question..are you an organism that needs to stay alive for a reason and a purpose or are you a speck of dust? If you are a speck of dust then why do I need to talk to you?, you are sterile and will blow away soon.

“None of your business, roadkill.”

You should have replaced the ‘roadkill’ with ‘you silly English kniggitts!’ to properly Python-ize your retort. :)

You nailed it! That is why Darwinian Evolution is inherently leftist. Sure there might be a few confused Darwinists who share a few conservative values with genuine conservatives, but the overall tendency is hard to the left.
