WASHINGTON -- White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that it is "silly" to think that a 90-year-old Medal of Honor winner is being asked to remove a flagpole from his front yard.

Blind squirrel rule at play?
I live about 1 mile from the vet. As much as it pains me to say this, he signed a home owners package that states the rules very clearly. It’s not the flag, it’s the pole. Warner, Webb and BO should stay out of it considering their Marxist tendencies. All Webb and warner are trying to do is garner some conservative support after an ass kicking from McDonnell.
Nationalize all flag poles! It’s the only answer!
So what should Col. Barfoot do with the flag then, throw it on the ground? Perhaps he should stick the flag in his grill and burn it instead. Maybe that would satisfy this anti-US HOA.
This HOA is probably composed of people who, as children, probably abstained from saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and who were not rightfully bullied and harassed in school for it. Damn them indeed.
not really...it is the state and community he lives in, purview to determine this case.....not the TOTUS....he can speak to the teleprompter till he is blue in the face and the teleprompter can have NO legal influence upon this case. What will ultimately happen....is the community will be embarrassed into letting the Colonel keep his flagpole and flag.
Make sure a union contractor produces them.
you are correct....
....I think I would rather die than either live in a marxist society....or sign one of those draconian, POS, home owners regulations....If I want to graze goats on my front lawn, I will....and effff the neighbors....
“So what should Col. Barfoot do with the flag then, throw it on the ground”?
...not at all. And I agree with another post that said the HOA will be embarrassed into letting him or into changing the HOA rules. I’m just saying that Barfoot signed an agreement that does not allow for a pole in the neighborhood.
To any reasonable person, it would be humbling.
The association in a statement said the dispute is not about the American flag but the flagpole.
So is he supposed to drap it over the house? Geez, these Peter Principle jackasses strike again. We have no problem with him eating off plates but it is those dastardly knives and forks that are shown to cause injury and death we are protesting. STUPID FARGIN MAROONS, GET A FRIGGIN LIFE!
This is symptomatic of the DC minded crowd. I was part of a project to design and install video intrusion zone security system on the railroads going through DC as part of a DHS directive after 9/11. The overall plan was to provide a system to detect and monitor for friend/foe along the railway in a 10 mile radius around DC.
The first phase was to be from Reagan Intl to across the Anancostia. It included putting up new poles from Reagan to the Potomac. The Arlington snoot club nixed that section of the project because they were worried about the “Viewshed” between their condos and the river. When we asked them if they knew what was carried in all of the cars, especially the tank cars, and what effects it would have on their “viewshed” if a terrorist were to blow them up right there, it didn’t even register.
Yep, I think “recipient” would have been a better word than “winner”, but that is probably beyond gibbs’ intellect.
The HOA sucks lemons- “aesthetics” leaves a lot of wiggle room- surely enough room to allow the flagpole to be maintained by someone whose military career was as distinguished as this gentleman’s was.
It’s actually none of the White House’s business.
The HOA documents do not mention flagpoles.
The Board is complaint is based on “aesthetic guidelines”.
If a flagpole was specifically mentioned, there is no question, it has to come down unless approved.
My advice to all of you—do not buy in an HOA controlled community. If you love the community, rent there, but do not buy.
You will have little, if any, control over your monthly dues and increases.
It all sounds rosy when you are buying, then when you live under the control of the developer or the HOA Nazis, the dream turns into a nightmare, even if you think you understand what you bought into.
I know from personal experience.
Do not buy in an HOA neighborhood.
“This shows Gibbs level of being clueless. One doesn’t win the CMH. One is awarded the CMH”.
...none of the Marxist idiots in the BO admin has one ounce of patriotism or respect for America or the flag. This is their way of trying to weasel their way into better poll numbers. Won’t work. BO’s base wants the flag taken down and burned. He certainly won’t get any vet support after taking a crap on the military for the past year.
Hate to burst your bubble, but there is no rule prohibiting his flagpole in the association rules...some nosy busybody complained, and the board made up the rule after the fact.
Im just saying that Barfoot signed an agreement that does not allow for a pole in the neighborhood.Where are you getting that? Everything I've read said that there is no mention of flagpoles in the bylaws, just some phrase regarding "aesthetics".
Use of the word “silly” is Obama’s attempt to trivialize this situation. It’s not going to work. The right to fly Old Glory on your property should not even be debated. This a Medal of Honor recipient and the defiling of the first amendment rights that he fought for.
Robert Gibbs has a very nasty passive-aggressive style. Delivered with a smile. His style is to dismiss and ridicule anything/anyone outside the 0bama party line as silly, losers, inconsequential. Unfortunately Gibbs is fairly effective. I’m sure he gets along great with the White House reporters
Sean Hannity hates his guts and ridicules him all the time. They has a run in and Sean is getting even—permanently
