White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that it is "silly" to think that a 90-year-old Medal of Honor winner is being asked to remove a flagpole from his front yard.

This shows Gibbs level of being clueless. One doesn't win the CMH. One is awarded the CMH.

I live about 1 mile from the vet. As much as it pains me to say this, he signed a home owners package that states the rules very clearly. It’s not the flag, it’s the pole. Warner, Webb and BO should stay out of it considering their Marxist tendencies. All Webb and warner are trying to do is garner some conservative support after an ass kicking from McDonnell.

Nationalize all flag poles! It’s the only answer!

It's hard to imagine not feeling very honored to have a MOH winner as a neighbor.

To any reasonable person, it would be humbling.

The association in a statement said the dispute is not about the American flag but the flagpole.

So is he supposed to drap it over the house? Geez, these Peter Principle jackasses strike again. We have no problem with him eating off plates but it is those dastardly knives and forks that are shown to cause injury and death we are protesting. STUPID FARGIN MAROONS, GET A FRIGGIN LIFE!

This is symptomatic of the DC minded crowd. I was part of a project to design and install video intrusion zone security system on the railroads going through DC as part of a DHS directive after 9/11. The overall plan was to provide a system to detect and monitor for friend/foe along the railway in a 10 mile radius around DC.

The first phase was to be from Reagan Intl to across the Anancostia. It included putting up new poles from Reagan to the Potomac. The Arlington snoot club nixed that section of the project because they were worried about the “Viewshed” between their condos and the river. When we asked them if they knew what was carried in all of the cars, especially the tank cars, and what effects it would have on their “viewshed” if a terrorist were to blow them up right there, it didn’t even register.

It’s actually none of the White House’s business.

The HOA documents do not mention flagpoles.

The Board is complaint is based on “aesthetic guidelines”.

If a flagpole was specifically mentioned, there is no question, it has to come down unless approved.

My advice to all of you—do not buy in an HOA controlled community. If you love the community, rent there, but do not buy.

You will have little, if any, control over your monthly dues and increases.

It all sounds rosy when you are buying, then when you live under the control of the developer or the HOA Nazis, the dream turns into a nightmare, even if you think you understand what you bought into.

I know from personal experience.

Do not buy in an HOA neighborhood.

Use of the word “silly” is Obama’s attempt to trivialize this situation. It’s not going to work. The right to fly Old Glory on your property should not even be debated. This a Medal of Honor recipient and the defiling of the first amendment rights that he fought for.

Robert Gibbs has a very nasty passive-aggressive style. Delivered with a smile. His style is to dismiss and ridicule anything/anyone outside the 0bama party line as silly, losers, inconsequential. Unfortunately Gibbs is fairly effective. I’m sure he gets along great with the White House reporters

Sean Hannity hates his guts and ridicules him all the time. They has a run in and Sean is getting even—permanently

Gibbs likes to use the word “silly” doesn’t he? Unfortuately, most of what this administration does
is anything but silly to the country.

Oh, By the way, Coates & Davenport, P.C. (800) 450-8311 (I suggest calling!) says,

Statement from the Sussex Square Homeowners Association Dec. 3, 2009

The Sussex Square Homeowners Association never intended its request that Col. Barfoot remove his flag pole as an affront to his patriotism.

This is not about the American flag. This is about a flag pole. And Col. Barfoot is not being forbidden from displaying an American flag.

With its request that he remove the flag pole, the association was discharging its duty to all the owners in the neighborhood. The association's position has merit and is supported by its Bylaws, Rules and Declaration of Restrictions and Covenants.

The association is optimistic that this matter can be resolved in a way that is mutually satisfactory to all parties and looks forward to Senator Mark Warner's involvement toward that end.

Anyone who wishes to offer comments may do so at colbarfootsflagpole@gmail.com

Thank you,

Coates & Davenport

Richmond, Virginia

The phoney email address at the end could have been "round_file@gmail.com" - So I suggest calling:
(800) 450-8311
Also the "Contact Us" link takes you to a form that works. That's a good alternative. The domain of the email address field must be legitimate - but that's all.

'Silly' Not to Allow Vet to Fly Flag

Dude, you need to back the hell off and let the man fly his flag.

Col. Barfoot fought for the notion that all people are equal under the law.

Let’s honor that by waiving the normal rules and giving him a free spin, huh?

Wow, is he LATE to the game. The HOA already extended the deadline, and has invited Mark Warner (a personal friend of Barfoot) to mediate the dispute.

It’s essentially over already. Warner will recommend the flagpole stay, and if he’s smart he’ll come up with some bone for the HOA so they can save face — maybe the guy pays a $50 fine for disobeying the ruling and violating his contract.

The HOA will agree to whatever Warner says, and it won’t be like they arbitrarily changed their mind or have to worry about other homeowners getting their good buddy the Senator to intervene on their behalf.

And HOAs around the country will start illegally asking applicants if they are veterans or have friends who are powerful democratic elected officials, and make their rulings accordingly, thus proving once again that for liberals, there is an aristocracy and rules should reflect that.

Did Gibbs retract that statement the moment he realized the controversy was over the U.S. flag and not this one?
