This should feel like a just reward for an offseason where the non-automatic qualifiers extolled their virtues in front of Congress, then reached unprecedented heights in the BCS era on the field.
It can't be understated that for the first time, two teams from outside of the major conferences have been granted access behind the BCS' velvet rope as No. 3 TCU and No. 6 Boise State will meet in the Fiesta Bowl. "I think the Fiesta Bowl, to their credit, is putting two very, very deserving teams on the field against each other," WAC commissioner Karl Benson said.
It's a statement, no doubt, but maybe not the one that this landmark moment should deliver, because the Broncos and Horned Frogs are having to play each other.
The Fiesta Bowl has created a matchup that seems more like a cop-out than an achievement; denying the two unbeatens a chance to validate their seasons against the big boys on the sports' biggest stage and opening up an entirely new chapter of BCS bashing/collusion allegations.

Texas barely beat Nebraska 1 second left, Bama barely beat Auburn, Florida barely beat Arkansas... same logic
Not really, still look at the strength of schedule for a truer picture of a team’s strength. TCU is like 75th, to Alabama’s 1st. position.
Not the least of which is that Boise had to struggle to beat a lackluster Louisiana Tech.
I am a Duck fan, just defending the small schools. All I know the Ducks are going to whip OHIO at the Rose bowl. What you all think?

1. OU was over-rated and that was the point I made in showing you how badly they had been beaten in their own conference playoff....the handicappers are the same ones that picked the likes of USC, Notre Dame, and Ohio State to be on top this year....I PICKED BSU...not because Boise was great, but because I knew that OU was NOT.
2. Utah did not play Arkansas last year...they played Alabama...and I predicted a Utah win, not because Utah is as good as most teams in the SEC but because Alabama lost a heartbreaker and would not be up for the game...they were 12 minutes from playing for the national title and lost...they didn’t care after that...I could site at least a dozen such examples in college football history.
But back to the real issue...do these teams with undefeated records in weaker conferences really measure up?
One word: Hawaii
Undefeated two years ago...didn’t play in the big game and a lot of folks claimed they should have been...”their UNDEFEATED...they DESERVE to be there!!!”
So, they played a third place SEC team and got beat 41-10....being UNDFEATED in that conference is like being 6-5 in ths SEC.
I am a Razorback fan and as such have no dog in the fight this year. But I will agree with you from what I have seen, the Ducks probably will beat Ohio State.
Right. Watching an NFL game in person can be absolutely monotonous. I’m kind of surprised NFL teams can get people to pay so much for these stupid seat licenses.
If the refs make the correct call on Petersen's interception in the LSU/Alabama game on November 7, and Terrence Cody doesn't block that field goal against 3-4 Tennessee (@ Alabama), no one would even be talking about this.
The same Louisana Tech that next week led LSU at halftime and lost by a smaller margin (8 vs. Boise State's 10)? :)
Yup, that the one, 70th strength of schedule and a 3 and 8 record.
I agree. You cant play 10% of available teams and try to claim the record is an indication of how you would do against the other 90%. There will never be a fair way to determine a champion if there is 119 teams.
This is why I am not in favor of a playoff system. The seeding will have the same lack of fairness that the bowls have now. Just look at the crying that goes on for a week after the basketball tourney is set.
Miami did not suck this year, though they have in recent years.
Of 112 teams they are ranked 14th, and they went 9-3.
If they suck, what of the 100 teams ranked lower?

With their talent, Miami should have ran away with the ACC. Shannon has got to go.
A few years ago Oklahoma played in the BCS national championship game (and lost to LSU) even though they had already lost their own conference championship to Kansas State If they had won the title game, they would have been the "national champion" even though they weren't even the Big 12 conference champion!
Georgetown and Villanova were in the same conference.
And just for everyones record, since 1995, here are the schools that have won the title, along with the conference:
UCLA (Pac 10)
Kentucky (SEC)
Arizona (Pac 10)
Connecticut (Big East)
Michigan State (Big 10)
Duke (ACC)
Maryland (ACC)
Syracuse (Big East)
North Carolina (ACC)
Florida (SEC)
Kansas (Big 12)
Big East, SEC, ACC, Big 12, and Pac 10. Looks like the BCS conferences win in basketball just like in football.
I’m not a big Shannon fan, but he’s not going anywhere after going 9-3. Shalala wont spend the money on a bigtime coach- it’s just not part of her priorities.
Coker absolutely decimated that program while Shahalalala stood by. He is the worst ever. Notice how he did not get a coaching job offer from ANYONE after leaving Miami?
And btw, I did chip in money for the banner that was flown over the orange bowl demanding that coker be fired, lol.
I forgot about that, but it is very true. And the sad thing is, even in conferences, you cant play all the teams (except Pac 10 and Big East). In the big 10, you could conceivably win the conference without playing 2 of the following in a given year: Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa
Yes that kick-off pretty much did it for Nebraska.
