Explosion in Russian nightclub 'kills scores'
BBC ^ | 4 December 2009 | Unattributed

Posted on 12/04/2009 4:01:18 PM PST by Moose4

An explosion has torn through a nightclub in the Russian city of Perm, killing at least 90 people.

Another 60 people were injured in the blast, the city's emergency services told the BBC.

About 200 people are said to have been in the club, named as the Lame Horse, when the blast occurred at 2315 local time (2015 GMT).

Police say they are investigating whether the accident was caused by fireworks.

A spokesman for the prosecutor-general's main investigative unit told Itar-Tass news agency this was not a terrorist attack.

"We are talking about a failure to observe fire regulations," he said.

I’m amazed at how quickly everyone claims “this is not a terrorist act”.

Combined with the recent bombing/derailment of the Moscow-St. Petersburg Nevsky Express train, it sure is suspicious. Horrible, whether accident or terrorism, that’s for sure.

“Regional officials told Itar-Tass that fireworks used at the party were too big for closed premises and were intended for outdoor use.

I’m amazed at how quickly everyone claims “this is not a terrorist act”.

From the article:

Seems pretty easy to verify what happened if there were surviving witnesses.

In regards to my post #6, you do have a point. Authorities seemed pretty quick to discount terrorism in the Ft. Hood shooting before it became pretty clear that that's exactly what it was.

OK so we have that biiig luxury train massacre, and now this, but it’s allllll an accident. And pretty amazing they were able to confirm the cause so early, you know?

Exactly like the London Tube/bus bombings....

The Lame Horse Night Club's web page.

http://www.clubxl.ru/?q=afisha

Apparently December 3, 4, and 5 it was celebrating its anniversary, which suggests special entertainment, which means the fireworks story might not be that improbable.

Of course, that doesn't exclude the jihad possibility either.

I'm reminded of the night club fire in Rhode Island involving the band Great White.

Yips! Party hearty!

I doubt that this was terrorism...it didn’t need to be. More like that RI nightclub fire of a couple of years ago, which involved violation of fire codes and carelessness.

Most definitely. I know a guy whose band used to play at the Station in RI. He lost a good friend in that fire. I’m not sure the survivors he knew fared all that much better...

If anything, Russia calls things terrorism when they aren’t (or at least may not be Islamic in nature- the 1999 apt explosions for example). They aren’t the US- they’ll call it it terrorism if it is, or they feel the need to.

There has been a major uptick in terrorist attacks and detections in Russia again. Russia is going to blame Georgia for this.
