Apparently there are still some posters on FR who are fast asleep. Wake up! Dammit! We are in the middle of a conservative rebellion! While you were sleeping we, along with millions of other freedom loving grassroots Americans have participated in hundreds of tea parties all across this great land and fully intend to keep it up until all of America is awake. We are fed up and mad as hell! We grassroots Americans are delivering a message to the ruling class: NO MORE!!
No more big government! No more high taxes! No more government bailouts! No more government takeovers! No government healthcare! No more corruption! No more global baloneyism!!
We're sick and tired of liberals and RINOs running roughshod over our God given Liberty!
We want our country back! We want our freedom back! We want it all back!!
No more socialism!!
Cut the taxes! Cut the spending! Cut the government!
Restore the constitutional limits on government! Restore our freedom!!
And not only no, but HELL NO to liberals and RINOS!!
Free Republic will not support RINOS!! Rudy McRomney, et al, can go straight to hell!!
The strategy is we win, they lose.
Any questions?
One answer...Perot Factor
See post #1,269 and #1,286 from Jim Robinson, he addresses the “holding action” Republicans you think we should support.
Charles, you are one of the biggest Romneybots on FR, your wordy Romney mush filled huge spaces on threads, they were vast, and you are still pushing him on this thread.
It scares me that you think that conservatives are the fringe people.
You are also a liar.
This is the statement I posted to you.
Why are you rino types always attacking freerepublic as being fringe people when we don't support your rino candidates,I guess the enemies of conservatism share a world view and a common enemy list."
You are a rino and you have been pushing Mitt Romney here for years, you were one of the most dedicated and passionate Romney promoters as you fought for him all over FR, and as you are now.
Drell, I've been following your argument here, and feel that I need to finally comment on your point of view with one of my own.
When I first came to FR, it was from lower grade political forums. They were very good for someone who was just beginning to dip his toe into the world of online political discourse, and I learned a great deal while there.
Our good friend Josh Painter was a regular at one of those forums, and used to post new threads which linked back to FR, quite frequently. Naturally, I followed some of those threads here, and spent much time exploring the place.
What struck me was the sense that this place was of a caliber that was far above those places where I hung my hat at the time. The level of discourse here was of a quality that seemed to me to be akin to the discussions of political scientists. I was very impressed, but didn't dare attempt to swim with the crowd here, at that time.
I lurked here for probably two years before finally signing up two years ago. It took me that long to learn enough in these pages to speak at the same level as the forum average.
The point that I want to stress here, is that when I first came to these pages, I was a conservative-leaning Republican. It hadn't been all that long since I'd given my vote to Arnold Schwarzenneger. I wasn't nearly the staunch conservative then, that I am today. I credit FR with sharpening my edge.
Instead of being turned off by the strident conservative views, and unapologetic patriotism of the members here, I was invigorated by it. Like Ronald Reagan said many times, "conservatism works wherever it's tried." Well, it works at FR, and every other place where unadulterated conservatism is spoken. People respond to it well, because it is the political philosophy which most closely aligns with our Founding American Ideals.
If strident conservatism turns people off on this forum, then it will not work as public policy, either - but we both know that it works whenever it's tried, and that it's actually what the people want.
I don't believe that allowing non-conservative views into the mix here will help us to attract more members at all. On the contrary, I believe that people will respond better to this community if there is a consistent, and persistent conservative message being communicated here.
I know of political forums where there mission is to allow all views, but those communities don't actually stand for anything, because they allow everything. I don't want to see the same thing happen to FR. It's the most popular conservative meeting place in cyberspace for a reason, and that is because it is unabashedly conservative.
Jim, I guess it’s because I’m a numbers guy, but I see it as dwindling our numbers. The way I see it, Democrats and Republicans exist in virtually equal numbers when the tally is taken at the polls. So, I see losing a Republican, no matter what you call him, as losing yet another vote from the total. I just don’t see how splitting any number off of the whole can in any way be beneficial.
GWB was not the preferred candidate for many of us. However, he got the nom. He did some good stuff and he did some bad stuff. But when he took positions we opposed, such as Harriet Meyers and immigration reform, the grassroots were able to derail those but only because we had a PLACE AT THE TABLE and he and the GOP listened. We exercised our influence and were able to defeat those positions.
Do you think conservatives have a place at the table with Obama and the dim majority? The TP’s just had a several hundred thousand person march in DC but health care reform has passed the House and Senate. Immigration reform and cap and trade are next on the agenda.
Picking up the torches and pitch forks and hitting people over the head without trying to understand WHY a Collins or Snowe get elected and re-elected in their districts is putting the cart before the horse.
Being a bull in a china shop is poor strategy for navigating the complex waters of politics. Shouting “NO MORE RINO’s” is fine, but one needs to understand why the RINO is there in the first place before one can develop a coherent and ultimately successful plan for changing the status qou.
Thank you Jim and HAPPY THANKSGIVING BIRTHDAY!
Our new Governor, Bob McDonnell, is one of those pro-life politicians who pushes for only a “life of the mother” exception.
Frankly, of the 3 semi-pro-life positions, “rape and incest” exception is the hardest for me to comprehend. I can make a logical argument for birth control, by asserting that the woman has a right to choose whether to “accept” the care of the unborn by allowing it to attach to her body.
I can even understand the logic of being “pro-life” but only after the baby has a beating heart; and less so but still there is an internal logic to the idea of banning abortion only after viability.
(by logic there I mean an internal consistancy in the argument, not that I agree with it).
But Rape and Incest exceptions make NO SENSE AT ALL for a pro-lifer. If the unborn is alive, and therefore has a right to life, how can that right be conditioned on the action of the father? How can a baby be more or less a “person” based on parentage?
No, “rape and incest exception” is actually a perverse suggestion that we really are banning abortion to punish women, because it “forgives” the woman if it wasn’t her fault she got pregnant. So I think the exception, which pretends to be politically expedient, greatly weakens the pro-life argument, and allows pro-abortionists to argue that pro-lifers are really anti-women.
Thank you. Glad you agree.
excellent post!
It's already in process. Vote who you want out and who should be a challenger here.
“You can take Romney or whichever RINO youre pushing today and shove him where the sun dont shine.”
What RINo have I ever pushed?
Is it time to debate the leaders of the GOP about RINOS on national tv, radio etc? I mean seriously...IT’S LONG OVERDUE.
#2. There is no strategy, only torches and pitchforks.
Windflier:
I said in my last post that I would now let this rest, but you have written a long and thoughtful response, for which I am grateful.
I stand by what I have written, but I truly do resonate with much of what you write. Thank you.
Last years election was down to a Rino and a Marxist/Communist so either way we lose. The Marxist won because the Rino did jack sqaut to try to win. The Rino tried to appease so called moderates, but really he was going for Democrats, and Rinos in the Republican party and then when he saw it wasn’t enough he tried a lame attempt to get conservative votes. So he made it easy to be singled out as hypocrite by everyone.
To get that Conservative vote, The Rino put a woman who was very good as his running mate. But then he idiot fed her to the wolves. He didn’t support her, let her do all the attacking, and he then suspended his campaign for a day or two over some lame excuse. And then the Rino lost his Rino support. So then he you knew he was finished. He lost because of himself and not anybody else.
The point is...We should never have a race come down to that again. Palin was the only thing that kept McCain afloat. He should have just sunk and Palin should have been nowhere near it.
Then Palin would have been better off. She is still well off, mind you. But Palin would not have had the baggage that came from running with an idiot Rino. She could have introduced herself to America on her own terms.
So because we had a Rino...it was better that the Rino lose and lose badly to be taught a lesson. But sadly, The Marxist then was elected.
The good thing is that we still have Palin and few others around to keep fighting. My beef is even more with how people then want to tear apart personalities within the movement and fight between them. But, they make it too easy.
Beck says something then Levin jumps on it. But the reality is we ave to unity around a conservative in 2012 or we watch Obama win again. Simple as that. If we fight then we watch Rino steal the nomination.
agreed
You need to get out more.
Arlington, Texas has a lot of conservative refugees. I know a few that landed there when they moved here.
North of Dallas is even more conservative. Collin County (and north of there) in particular. Dallas County is only separated from Oklahoma by two counties, and you know that OK is 100% red.
Now that we agree, what is your plan for rooting them out?
