Former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain said Thursday he has read Sarah Palin's book and has no regrets about picking her as a running mate.

(snip)

He also said if Mrs. Palin decides to run for president in 2012 and becomes the Republican Party nominee he would vote for her.

"I hope she has every success," Mr. McCain said. "She's still pretty popular."

EXCLUSIVE: McCain: 'Grateful' that Palin was VP choice (McCain endorses Palin in 2012)

His silence during the assault of the past year speaks louder. Now all he's doing is groveling.

McCain knows he needs Sarah to campaign for him. That’s it, and that’s all.

McCain did not endorse her. He said if she decides to run and get the nomination, he would vote for her. Better than nothing, but not an endorsement.

Glad McCain has seen the light—even if its a bit late. The future is with Palin in or out of the GOP. She has something McCain and Obama lack—Leadership.

Whoopie...effin...doo. As if he would vote for the Democrat nominee. This is merely Beltway-speak.

Actually, with you resorting to name calling on the third post, it’s pretty obvious you’re too much of a jack ass to debate anything.

I too would be very disappointed in Sarah if she supported McCain. Sarah stated she would be supporting conservative candidates. McCain is no conservative.

She owes him nothing. He used her to appease the conservatives and threw her under the bus when he was finished with her. He said nothing in her defense after the election when she was being pilloried in the press.

I think it would be a mistake for her to support him. Either she stands for conservative values or she doesn’t. Either she is a breath of fresh air or another Republican party hack. Supporting McCain would look like it was just party politics as usual.

The whole idea is to re-take the party back from the rinos, not support their campaigns just because they have an R behind their names.

She starts selling a ton of books and now McCain speaks well of her.

What an incredibly mystifying coincidence!

Precisely.

What a media whore.

Palin was not too far from being discovered by America any way So were Jindal and a bunch of others. Around here, Palin was one of a crowd of potential picks who were up-and-comers.

The difference is that Palin was not just a part of a group of competent leaders that deserved recognition and watching for future potential. I am saying that Palin was on the verge of being discovered as a charismatic superstar, GOP female Governor regardless of a McCain.

A beautiful, moose hunting, crusading, female Governor that was the most popular Governor in America with approval numbers in the 90s was someone that the media could not keep from the public even if she was a republican.

People like me already knew who she was, just as I already knew who Jindal was but Palin at some point was destined to reach the general public as a well known, colorful and interesting Governor.

The fact of the matter is that she wouldn't be where she is today without the star-making cachet of having been chosen as McCain's VP. Without that, she'd be a one-term governor of Alaska, which isn't exactly bursting with electoral votes. That's she's attractive wouldn't be enough for her to go on, and frankly, the MSM wouldn't have promoted her moose-hunting, pro-life self if they had any excuse.

McCain's choice gave them NO choice, and I'd love to see this list of Republicans who aren't running for national audience or who have a regular column who the MSM would have given so much airtime to as they did Palin.

Without McCain's choice, we wouldn't be talking about Palin except as a one-term governor of a state that's no electoral prize. You can spin it all you like, but when you look at the reality of how national political figures are decided, Palin simply doesn't have the track record that would have her taken seriously on her own. If she weren't pro-life or Republican, you, too, would be saying "She's a one-termer from Alaska, you call that enough of a resume to be president? Don't we have enough trouble with a guy who's a one-term senator being president?"

You are insane, how do you figure that the governor with the highest approval numbers in America is a "one-term" governor?

Palin’s the only reason McCain didn’t lose by a landslide. Of course he’s grateful.
