Former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain said Thursday he has read Sarah Palin's book and has no regrets about picking her as a running mate.
(snip)
He also said if Mrs. Palin decides to run for president in 2012 and becomes the Republican Party nominee he would vote for her.
"I hope she has every success," Mr. McCain said. "She's still pretty popular."

He is going to use her to stump for his campaign. You watch. And I have been praying that 'she' will be harmless as the dove, but wiser than the serpent. IF Sarah lets John in her chariot I will have to turn my back on her.

Even a broken clock is right two times a day.
Thanks rabscuttle for finally being able to post something GOOD about Senator McCain, when he has actually done something right and decent.

Without McCain, we wouldn't even be talking about Palin.
Oh, right--of course, Palin was just as popular before he chose her for VP... ;)

I can't see Nora O'Donnell in that cartoon. Is she stalking Palin, or what?
I've never seen a network spend so much time on someone who isn't of any importance as they spend on her.

Without McCain, we wouldn't even be talking about Palin. Palin was not too far from being discovered by America any way, the stories on the most popular Governor in America were starting to leak out.
With approval numbers in the 90s and with her life and biography, the media was already losing their to fight to conceal the Republican firebrand.

Palin was not too far from being discovered by America any waySo were Jindal and a bunch of others. Around here, Palin was one of a crowd of potential picks who were up-and-comers.
The fact is, McCain gave her the spotlight which led her to where we are now. She COULD have become well known some other way, but...she didn't.

Didn’t McCain make news a few months after the election, saying that he would probably not support her for president?

It has less to do with selling books than the fact that McCain will be running in a contested primary in 2010. He would love to have Palin’s endorsement.

I look forward to endorsing McCain’s primary opponent.

McCain views conservatives exactly that way.

McCain’s only chance for a legacy will be her future election.
He should root for her.

McCain has shown incredible political dexterity and longevity. He always manages to make news - something few veteran Republican office holders can do on a regular basis (unless they are caught in public restrooms...). I would not bet against him in AZ.
I also am grateful for McCain showing huge balls in picking her as Veep. When he did so, she was on no one’s radar for the slot (other than some visionaries here at FR).
