Politico: A senior administration official said President Barack Obama was simply observing protocol when he bowed to Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko upon arriving at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Saturday.

I just checked mine, nothing there. We really need a scan of a few pages out of that book.
I just ordered a used one that is a previous edition from a bookseller. It had been a library book. With expedited shipping (which I assume means first class mail instead of book rate) it was still less than $10.
This whole thing will probably have blown over by the time I get it, but there will be future protocol gaffes by this clueless fool.
No. That is a blatant violation of protocol prohibiting bowing to foreign monarchs, in effect since 1776. BHO the Kenyan has broken that rule, because he is a Kenyan.
Well, he's Kenyan, so no foul.
Who is the protocol chief, Sunny Davis? /obscure
WE BOW TO NO ONE... WE DIP TO NO ONE. This is another slam on America. He’s a disgrace.
I wouldn't read too much into his expression. Part of the Emperor's "protocol" is to take everything in stride and to smile even when a foreign leader is committing a faux pas. As for being happy that Obama knows their customs, Obama revealed he actually knows little about their customs. This isn't some ordinarily tourist who bemuses the locals as he clumsily performs some of their customs and they think "oh well, at least he's trying even if he is making a fool of himself." This is the Harvard educated President who is surrounded by scores of advisers and yet he can't be bothered to get the details right? Can you imagine if Sarah Palin had done something like that? We'd never hear the end of them saying this proves that she cannot be considered a serious leader. That is, if they could stop laughing long enough to say anything.
LOL!
hi, justanother idiot. So far in countless threads no Asian will back this up.
I corrected this my bad. I was listening to Obama in China news as I typed that. My BAD.
Japenese Emperor.
Is there a chart available with which to gauge bow depth?
I should think that it would be a handy briefing document
for Western visitors.
Yes, if he not a Natural Born Citizen (and he has yet to prove that he is), he's making an excellent case for the prescience of the Founding Fathers in putting the NBC clause in the Constitution.
Amen to that. He is making the case for Article II big time. All we need to do now is isolate some of his selling out America treason communications, and whack him with them.
Spin that some where else. Its a show of weakness in the Pacific, and thats all there is to it.
The cost? Many will die.Just like our soldiers die in Afghanistan because of Obama’s weakness. But that is just the tip of the iceberg, so sad to say.
SHAME on Obama, and shame on you for not seeing that.
Neville Chamberlain was an appeaser, waving a piece of paper. (Obama has it stuck up his a$$.)Look what that caused.Barak Hussein Obama means WWIII. And its starting to shape up.
In addition he is weakening our nation politically, socially and economically so that we will suffer horribly when it comes.
20 years from now, people will wish someone had cut him short, that is if there are any of us left by then.

In Japanese culture, the depth of the bow signifies your level of apology. The deeper the bow, the more apologetic. So, this is just a continuation of the apology tour.
Hmmmmmmm....Yet in Japan,Japan expert to ABC : Yes, Obamas bow made him look like an idiotThe bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Red State terms, but evoked weakness in Japanese terms .The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, again, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part.
You are correct. The Japanese bow at approximately a 45 degree angle.
