About 3,600 vaccinated on first day of Dallas County swine flu clinic BUT ONLY FOR UNINSURED!
Dallas Morning News ^ | Nov 5 2009 | SHERRY JACOBSON

Dallas County's first mass distribution of the swine flu vaccine Wednesday tested the patience of thousands of adults and children, who stood outdoors for hours to snag a scarce shot.

SONYA N. HEBERT/DMN Rony Velazquez, 4, waited while his mother, Blanca Medrano (left), and his sister Diana Velazquez were screened before getting their H1N1 shots at the Dallas County Health and Human Services building on Wednesday. But in the end, there was a lot of praise for how well the county dispensed the vaccine.

Despite chilly weather before dawn and intense sun by late morning, almost no one in the line complained about the long but orderly wait.

JIM MAHONEY/DMN Hundreds lined up early Wednesday to try to get the swine flu vaccine, which Dallas County is reserving for uninsured, high-risk groups."This is pretty efficient," said Michael Buxton, a 53-year-old South Dallas resident whose breathing problems sent him in pursuit of the vaccine.

"I waited a couple hours, but it was a lot smoother than it should have been."

JIM MAHONEY/DMN Sixteen-year-old Glenda Castro took care of paperwork while waiting in line on Wednesday. In all, the county inoculated about 3,600 adults and children, using up about a third of its supply of H1N1 vaccine reserved for uninsured, high-risk groups. They include pregnant women, people 6 months to 24 years old and those 25 to 64 years old with chronic illnesses

IMAGINE THAT!!!! Tax payers pay for H1N1 vaccine, and its only available to the UNINSURED! So if you are pregnant, or in a high rish group and you cannot get a shot at the hospital, or doctors office...DON'T BOTHER to go to the Dallas County Health Dept for a shot you payed for...you aren't welcome. Boy this socialized medicine is something huh? Too bad we can't opt out of paying for it. Old game NEW RULES!

If you are insured; you can go to your own doctor and get the shot.

What a joke. Go to www.theflucase.com and see if you feel so “deprived” and cheated. The vaccine is UNSAFE and INEFFECTIVE with a very good chance of giving you life long debilities.

You’re not missing a thing by not “having” the swine flu/H1N1 shot. A French doctor calculated that humans have a 50X greater chance of dying from the vaccine than the virus.

Let the have-nots be the Guinea pigs. Every MD I know is not planning to get the H1N1 vaccine for himself

A French doctor calculated that humans have a 50X greater chance of dying from the vaccine than the virus.

Any facts to back that one up? Over a 1,000 Swine Flu deaths in the US as of Oct. 24th.

So, can you produce a source for 50,000 deaths related to the vaccine?

Maybe. Where I live, there is a shortage. The doctors don’t have it. Word is that we won’t get another shipment till December. I figure if you’re going to get the flu, you’ll have it by then...so what’s the point.

And we want these people to control our overall health care?

It’s some social justice. And discriminatory.

Did you get tested to confirm it’s H1N1? My doctor said many think or are being diagnosed with H1N1 and many are not actual cases of it.

I’m not anti-vaccine, but personally, I think you put yourself at the most risk of getting the flu standing in a line with 3,600 other people at a clinic.

If you have a weakened immune system, stay away from crowds like that, and call your doctor.

US swine flu deaths surpass 1,000

Lest you accuse me of not providing a source for the 1,000 US deaths as of Oct. 24, 2009

Even if you get the shot today, it will be at least 2 weeks before you have a substancial immunity to the disease. Then, with the vaccine it’s still an odds game. You may have 80% immunity, so you could still get sick (20% chance) but if you do get sick it should be far less severe than what you would have gotten.

Yes, I fully intend to either get the flu, or get the shot. Preferrably the shot. Either way, I’m not afraid of the Swine flu this year. I am terrified of what this strain of influenze could mutate into either next year, or the years down the road.

I’d rather have some immunity to future mutations; than no immunity at all.

It’s the same here. We cannot get it from our own doctors. They don’t have it. The government is handling the distribution of the vaccine here. Only a few clinics outside of Milwaukee County.

My husband and I are both in the high risk group. But we’ve been bumped out because of our age. Only those in the high risk group under the age of 18 can get it now because of the shortage.

Quite a few vaccines had to be thrown away at a West Allis hospital when a refrigeration system broke down.

We’ve called around at different private healthcare clincs. no one has it.

I'm guessing that they can't.
