We lost bigtime tonight. The other races were meaningless compared to this one. Winning this was imperative to teaching the GOP a lesson that it refuses to learn. I think that any meaningful win in 2010 is dead at this point, because we’ve lost the fight in our own party that needs to take place before we can win on the national stage.

Are you nuts? This one race is nothing compared to taking two states... if the idiots who voted for the DIABLO had backed Hoffman he would have won.

No... the GOP lost a seat tonight. They were the losers. We are the winners because we kicked them in the shins and got their attention. Conservatives won tonight. If Hoffman had won, he'd be in an ineffective minority party. Just taking up space. He should consider running again in 2010...

I disagree. The man was a 3rd candidate and only running for 30 days. It was a close call. Great job Doug.

We won 2 out of 3 and you’re saying we lost big time? Scuzzy was unmasked as the flaming liberal that she is. Newt was outed as the party liner that he is. We lost bigtime? Oh, I don’t think so. Go read Sarah Palin’s latest Facebook entry and man up.

I disagree, the 23rd race is only an issue to pros and dedicated political junkies and activists, they know what happened here regardless of a close loss.

A loss may enable the media to make noise for the masses but the insiders and the GOP will see the lesson as the same as a win, 3 or 4 percentage points one way or the other doesn’t change anything for the study of what took place in the race and what it means.

I respectfully disagree. This was the Battle of Long Island. Valley Forge, Trenton, Saratoga and Yorktown lie ahead.

There was a flag from that war that had the image of a beaver gnawing on a tree. Below the image was the motto:

PERSERVERANCE

We will prevail.

GIVEN 1 MORE WEEK WE WOULD HAVE WON. THIS IS GOOD STUFF RIGHT HERE!

WTF?

You do recall the following, don't you?

1) There was no primary to allow people's true positions to be aired -- party officials in consultation with DC RINOs chose Scuzzy.

2) A month ago Hoffmann was mired in last place.

3) Sarah Palin spoke up, but did not campaign in person. A couple of Tweets and/or Facebook postings.

(Contrast this, by the way, to the multiple PERSONAL appearances that Obama(+) put in for Corzine and Deeds. FAIL.)

4) Hoffmann surged.

5) The RINOs did a double-pronged attack. The GOP hierarchy and heavy hitters -- including GOP chair Steele and RINO-turncoat-Newt -- publicly endorsed Scuzzy.

6) The GOP also spent $900,000 on Scuzzy.

7) At the last minute, Scuzzy dropped out. This had the effect of negating all of the GOP-cast absentee ballots, now guaranteed to be wasted for purposes of defeating the DEM.

8) To make the stab in the back DOUBLY sure, Scuzzy officially, and in public, endorsed the DEM. (WTF???)

9) Hoffman still came within 3% as a Third Party candidate, after coming from nowhere to remove the hand-picked GOP RINO quisling.

10) But all you can do is say "we lost, boo hoo."

I beg to differ.

Cheers!

(+)Have YOU accepted Barack H. Obama as your personal savior? (mmm, mmm, mmm)

The war is not lost.

Tonight, one battle in that war was lost.

The war continues so long as it is fought hard and fought well by good people.

This is not a time to quit.

This is a time to continue fighting.

“We lost bigtime tonight. The other races were meaningless compared to this one.”

Yep. Virginia going red is hardly a surprise as it only went blue for BO. The NJ race was won by a moderate, and in NY 23 the conservative lost even with the endorsments of nationally ranked conservatives. This will just encourage the GOP leadership to run moderates using this race as proof that conservatives can’t win. The dems picked up what had been a solid GOP seat. Governors don’t get a vote on health care bills or cap-n-trade bills.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. Early indications are that Hoffman made a contest out of it despite the fact that Scuzzyfuzzy endorsed the Dem as well as the fact that the GOP initially was against hoffman and then gave him little support after Scuzzyfuzzy dropped out. It says a lot whenever you finish a race like Hoffman did after initially having both major national party machines against you. Think of what would have been if he had National GOP support from the beginning. If conservatives have a defeatist attitude about this race, then the RINOs in the GOP win. We can't afford that.

oh shush up......this was a iffy thing at best in 23.....a third party candidate running against the two parties with the pub still taking votes and then endorsing the rat...

what this shows though is that the rats will stoop to anything to win....buying off candidates, acorn, union thugs...whatever...

personally, I don't know why Hoffman conceded....theres still votes out there..

is conceding a legal procedure?....if the votes turn around, can he still win....or does the counting just stop....???

You are correct. The message tonight is RINOs win and conservatives don't, despite huge donations from out of state, and backing from Rush, Palin, and the Tea Party.

I don't know why conservatives blew their load on this race.

Why did they think NY voters would embrace a conservative in a RINO seat? After failing to stop McCain in the primaries and failing to elect Palin. I have to assume a couple marches went well and conservatives thought it nullified the 08 elections and we could now afford to throw away congressional seats. Conservatives didn't stop a socialist on the SCOTUS, or the GM take over, and they haven't stopped Obamacare or cap and tax. All the political pull of the T-party power-brokers behind a spoiler. what a shame.

Conservatives sent a message to 0. The message is "The anti-obama constituency is so powerless they are fighting for second place. This is a good day to be a rat." The rats are willing to bend, overlook, and break any law to win. They will lie to win. They will pretend to be centrists. We can't do that for fear the conservatives will desert the party. Conservatives think the best way win is to bludgeon the inhabitants of Reagan's Big Tent.

The GOP promoted a moderate candidate in New York in a RINO seat. That is a winning stratagy. Hoffman got every conservative vote, and he lost. Conservatives should consider a strategy that expends less energy going after RINOs in favor of going after democrats ( the guys in power ), but they wont. Conservatives will blame the GOP leadership for an unelectable conservative failing to win in a liberal state.

The GOP now has 2 out of 31 congressional seats in NY.

I am sorry that we lost this race as well. However, this loss isn’t nearly as bad as you make out. The fact that a previously unknown conservative candidate was able to come within 4 percentage points of winning a congressional race, in a congressional district that Obama carried last year, despite the fact that his Democratic opponent was endorsed by his Republican opponent is still very significant. The margin of the loss was small enough that it seems likely that an equally conservative candidate could clearly have won if he had had the backing of the Republican Party from the beggining. Especially if he was a more charismatic candidate.

I am quite sympathetic to your vision here, but I’m not convinced you’re right yet.

The GOP could claim this proves a conservative can’t win today, but we both know Howard could have won if the GOP bad fallen in line behind him weeks ago.

All we need to do is make sure good candidates are on the ballots in the primaries next spring. To heck with the GOP leadership.

No need to be so downcast. The GOP establishment and the RATS all know that the NY-23 election result was rigged/fraudulent. If they learned any lesson, it’s that they’re being cornered and their days are numbered. We conservatives are like the unzombies knocking on the windows and doors of their little world.

I agree. This loss nullifies the wins in Virginia and New Jersey. The donks are saying the loss in Virginia is no big deal because thats generally a Republican state anyway. And they`re saying New Jersey just reverted to historical standrds,,,donk in the White House - Republican Governor in NJ.
