Republican Dede Scozzafava endorsed her former Democratic opponent Sunday in the race for an upstate New York congressional seat, one day after Scozzafava dropped out of the contest.
Scozzafava dropped out after Conservative Party candidate Dough Hoffman experienced a late-in-the-game surge. But on Sunday, Scozzafava backed Democrat Bill Owens -- the announcement was made in a statement send out by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
"I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same," she said. "In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests first."

Most of the libertarians I’ve bumped into right here on FR all show up on the morality threads supporting RINOs and advocating dope legalization, pornography, perversion, abortion, flag burning, and general chaos/anarchy/lawlessness(get the government out of the way)in the name of “liberty”.
I remember watching the Clinton followers in the Rose Garden after he was impeached. Same state of mind.
He should be held accountable for this debacle.
Newt is not the one who sent $900,000 to back DeDe.
He’s stupid, but center your anger on the ones that are responible...the GOP leadership. Demand new leadership.
Not sure what Mojo was thinking, but he sure had a looong thread defending her against what everyone else on FR thought.
Why are Steele and Sessions and the rest of the NRCC not resigning at this point?????????????????????????????????
NY-23 has been a cluster&*^% and Steele and the NRCC leadership have their RINO fingerprints all over it.
She is the wife of a thug......no surprise here.
AND another thing — this should SLIENCE, ONCE AND FOR ALL, the weak argument that the Republicans are “different” than the Democrats. WRONG. When it comes down to WHO has power, they BOTH agre — WASHINGTON DC does, or should. Despicable!
Valerie Jarrett basically said the WH was reaching out to have her endorse the Democrat on one of the shows this morning. The Dems are trying to play it that the GOP doesn’t want moderates. This lady was no moderate but a full fledged liberal who in the past had threaten to become a Dem. Now she can do just that and take her friends with her.
That is what the Bushes were about, unraveling Reagan. The biggest mistake Reagan made was to choose Bush, (the GOP party choice,) as his VP.
Me too, i.e., I hope you are wrong.
Steele changed his mind last night after she dropped out and said the party would switch support to Hoffman.
It makes me wonder what it would be like had Steele given half the money to David Harmer in the CA-10 that he gave to Scozzafava.

You nailed it that the RNC Chair has to support the nominee of the Congressional District as well as the NRCC Chair. NRCC Chair backed out on her even before this — she was way to liberal and making noises she might become a Dem.
The fault lies with the GOP County Chairs in that Congressional District as well as NY State GOP Chair for allowing this debacle to happen. The minute it was discovered she got the nomination under suspicious circumstances, she should have been removed.
I made the statement yesterday that I think she did the right thing by dropping out. I based my statement on the fact that her stated reason for dropping out was the good of the party. She obviously didn’t drop out for the good of the Republican party if she is endorsing a Democrat, so she just exposed herself as a liar. I am still happy she dropped by the way.
Both parties want compliant collectivists as candidates and office holders. That is the only way to keep the DC political machine growing and thriving.
When the “chosen” Republican candidate would rather see a Democrat elected than a conservative, there is no longer any reason to believe any lip service paid by Republicans to conservative principles and ideals.
As if their actions for the past 20 years weren’t enough of a clue.
I hope conservative Republicans in Florida take note of this fiasco for the 2010 election. No more of the RINO, Charlie Crist. Marco Rubio is our conservative candidate.
Even Pavlov’s dog took less time to figure it out!
Sorry you got so bent out of shape against Hoffman, but it's pretty clear now you had it wrong.
That may well be true, but my response was to both of you, to address Lakeshark’s shot across your bow that landed in my galley ; }
Still and all, I see Dede’s endorsement as a good thing. They cannot deny that the two party system effectively vanished years ago. It is well past time to reinstate it.
Best regards,
Tatt
