CFA Executive Director: "While I admire Newt's intelligence and respect him as a fellow Catholic, his crass, political calculation in endorsing such a pro-abortion candidate sends an unfortunate signal that party loyalty is more important than morality. Newt needs to examine his conscience for so publicly flouting the Church's doctrine on abortion and gay marriage."

Amen to that! Let’s keep fighing the Good Fight!
The world is going to END. Honestly, hes a RINO.
Thus, Gingrich is a RINO. Or, more accurately, a CINO (Conservative In Name Only)
LOL. Gotta love it. The clowns are coming out of the woodwork today.
All hail the perfect conservatives of FR ...
I'm trying to reason with a bunch of jokers ...
FR has more than its share of clowns these days ...
Newt a RINO, and pigs fly too.
Newt’s done a lot of great work for the conservative cause. He’s forgotten more than most of us put together will ever know about American history. He pulled off quite an historic move back in ‘94. Give him his due. That said, he’s out to lunch on NY-23. If he ever plans to run for president, he cannot get the nomination unless he moves off of scuzzy and gets behind Hoffman.
What fight for the country. The only thing Ive been seeing on FR lately is a bunch of the same old ...
1. Everything is the fault of the RINOs
2. The MSM media is on a deathwatch.
Everything is not the fault of the RINOs, and the MSM is still alive and kicking and influencing peoples opinion ...
Losing election cycle after losing cycle be damned, the parties base deserting them at
Once again, the people of FR are blind, deaf, or not living in reality.
The liberals win elections because of the MSM. THE MEDIA.
And Neither side wins an election ONLY because of their base ...
I’d rather Newt keep to his convictions and stay w/his support for RINO Dede.
As for as Newt having any aspirations for political office, he might win if he runs on the democrat ticket. He’s aligned himself w/the rats for quite awhile. I’d rather him be happy and the Republication Party be clean of RINO’s - as much as possible.
As far as ‘his due’ - that was fifteen+ years ago - should it be a lifetime award? Reminds me of McCain ‘give him his due’. When they have offered nothing else, we should hang on that accomplishment - like that ‘one’ thing defines them.
Newt endorsed someone who supports killing babies.
That is a long way beyond ‘merely imperfect’.
It is 100% unacceptable.
I have to agree, and this has been true since he was shilling for Nelson A. Rockefeller in 1968 as a youthful member of the GA convention delegation.
I really think Newton had little to do with the 1994 outcome; it was a reaction against Clintonism. Most people in November 1994 had never heard of Gingrich, who was then the minority whip in the House. He did not follow through under his Speakership. Newton even said that he “melts” in the presence of Bill Clinton.
Newt better get with the program
Newt has been wooing liberals, and consorting with the enemy. I usually agree with you, but he changed over the years. Sometimes people do that.
Yes, I still have in my memory that picture of Newt and Polutesy sitting all cozy on a couch talking so seriously about how we MUST do something about global warming! That did it for me with RINO Newt!
My position exactly. I will never trust him again.
Newt's killed whatever career he thought he still had in politics, including that of writer or commentator, much less, candidate for office.
He's also now got the kiss-of-death. Any national level Republican who makes nice with him in public, will also be branded as a RINO. This includes talk show hosts (hear that, Sean?)
...he doesnt understand the demographics and dynamics of NY-23.
You're talking out of both sides of your mouth. He's either the brilliant tactician, or he's a dope. Which is it?
You can't have it both ways.
I didn’t say give him a pass. I’m saying he’s not the useless POS everybody is making him out to be, that’s all. What I mean by “give him his due” is to try to keep a little perspective and balance when criticizing someone who has accomplished something for us. As for recently, I have heard him criticize zero mercilessly numerous times.
It’s not that I’m such a great fan of Newt’s - I’m not. But I do get tired of seeing conservatives skewer someone because they aren’t a 100% perfect conservative 100% of the time. It gets childish and tedious. I say let’s keep our eye on the ball and save the skewering for people like scuzzy and the other BRs (Beyond RINOs) and the real enemy (zero). Newt is not our enemy. I think guys like Lincoln Chafee, Jim Jeffords, Arlen Specter and a host of others are far more deserving of our wrath than Newt is.
As for McCain, I can’t stand the guy, but I voted for him anyway - he was a lot better choice than zero. As for giving him his due, well, you go spend five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp and then get back to me about what he is due. He IS due respect for that no matter how much he grates on our last nerve. There are just certain things that are so monumental that we, who have given and sacrificed much less or nothing at all, simply have no right to speak to other than with respect and gratitude. When I tell a member of the armed services or his family member that I appreciate his service, I really do mean it. Harping about McCain-the-pain really pales when you think about zero using our dead soldiers in their caskets for a photo op the other night. It pales when one thinks about John Murtha and all the things he’s done. Please keep your eye on the ball. KNOW YOUR ENEMY. It isn’t Newt and it isn’t McCain, much as we might like to slap them around a bit. Yeah, they’re warts, but they’re our warts, like it or not.
It wasn’t Newt’s public persona that made an important impact on the ‘94 election. It’s what he did behind the scenes, out of public view and away from the cameras. His public face didn’t come on strong until after he became speaker.
>> Lets all turn on Newt (again) because he says something (1 thing) that you don’t agree with. <<
I appreciate your wit and sarcasm. Seriously!
But in Newt’s case, I think there’s a lot more at play than just this one incident. Many, many conservatives have long been very uneasy about the man because of things like his history of marital infidelity, his tendency to pal around with both Clintons on occasion, his sometimes arrogant and know-it-all demeanor, etc. So the NY-23 affair may just be the straw that’s causing the camel to develop severe back problems.
I recall how pleased many Catholics on FR were, about Newt’s conversion. I was roundly denounced for pointing out that he took advantage of Protestant fundamentalists, that he would do the same to Catholics, and that his conversion was very likely signalling Presidential ambitions ... going after that burgeoning new demographic, don’tcha know. He even made a point that his wife speaks Spanish, and that he was learning it himself.
He’s revealing himself anew, to a new audience. Hate to say I told you so, but I did.
I should have known better, because he used to be my representative in the GA 6th, back before he got famous.
He was not a very good representative, not responsive to his constituents. And he was egotistical and opportunistic even back then, changing positions pretty readily when it seemed to his advantage.
He did good work on the Contract with America, but that was atypical rather than typical. He quickly fell back into more characteristic behavior with Clinton ... and since.
We can be grateful to him for the good work that he DID do, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't criticize him when he messes up. And his recent positions have been mostly mess.
