Democrats Vote To Give ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions
RepublicansFinancialServiceshouse.gov ^ | 10/22/09 | Financial Services Committee

Posted on 10/23/2009 3:39:08 PM PDT by OpusatFR

WASHINGTON - During consideration of H.R. 3126, legislation to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA), Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass an amendment offered by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) that will make ACORN eligible to play a role in setting regulations for financial institutions.

The Waters amendment adds to the CFPA Oversight Board 5 representatives from the fields of "consumer protection, fair lending and civil rights, representatives of depository institutions that primarily serve underserved communities, or representatives of communities that have been significantly impacted by higher-priced mortgages" to join Federal banking regulators in advising the Director on the consistency of proposed regulations, and strategies and policies that the Director should undertake to enforce its rules.

By making representatives of ACORN and other consumer activist organizations eligible to serve on the Oversight Board, the amendment creates a potentially enormous government sanctioned conflict of interest. ACORN-type organizations will have an advisory role on regulating the very financial institutions from which they receive millions of dollars annually in direct corporate contributions and benefit from other financial partnerships and arrangements. These are the same organizations that pressured banks to make subprime mortgage loans and thus bear a major responsibility for the collapse of the housing market.

In light of recent evidence linking ACORN to possible criminal activity, Democrats took an unprecedented step today to give ACORN a potential role alongside bank regulators in overseeing financial institutions. This is contrary to recent actions taken by the Senate and House to block federal funds to ACORN.

A recent inquiry into bank funding of ACORN activities by three House Committees found that institutions that would be regulated by the CFPA have provided millions of dollars to the organization in the form of direct donations, lines of credit, cash, and other assets over the last 15 years.

The amendment passed on a vote to 35-33. Click here to view the vote.

It always helps if you email each of them separately and have a catchy subject line. If it is really important email them often with different catchy subject lines. We all need to email all of the conservative media that we can think of. The more the better.

I think we’re setting the same stage like when CArter ushered in REagan. WE need something like the hostage crisis in IRan, that goes on for days, with no one dying of course...

I think it’s a matter of time, and it will happen.

The ARabs are going to push the envelope on Obama. They’re going to do something that will force him to choose.

It’s going to happen.

Then the Russian’s too, no that they’ve got a weak dog in the WH and that they can do what they want with him.

You can just feel it, can’t you? Obama does no like confrontation, unless it’s sneaky...and against his own. He’ll never stand up to the Saudi’s or Russians or any of them...

You watch.

Wow, Dim McCarthy of NY votes ‘nay’?! She must not have gotten the memo. Either that, or the tea (party) leaves are indicating she’ll be facing a tough re-election campaign in ‘10.

I’m always amazed at friends, family who say that they CAN’T BELIEVE that Waters, Frank, Pelosi, etc. keep getting re-elected.

They never consider just who their constituents are. *Birds of a feather*...(sigh).

they'll keep pushing, you know - it's what they do. what they've historically done. We've already seen it; SEIU employees beating up a black man giving out Gadsden flags at a recent townhall meeting, other threats of violence.

These lefties have been weaned for the past 30 years on thinking that we are "the other", we are to blame for everything, we are the cause and root of all evils. They're so brainwashed that it's even ok to break the law as long as the ends justify the means. Such as this Waters who sees no problem with giving money to criminals, because those resources will be used against us, the "criminals" in her sick mind.

Long short, we've already been dehumanized in their minds and thoughts. Just like the Jews in the early 20th century in Germany.

And just like those Germans were ripe for Hitler, so too, are our current batch more than willing to follow an obama.

One disadvantage and one advantage to the other side. Unlike Hitler, obama already had large portions of government and corporate power/resources in place, dedicated to this statist vision, and whom view us at best, with derision, and at worst, worthy of destruction.

Disadvantage? Unlike the Jews; we're armed. And we're American.

Now, you may think the above is hyperbole - heck, I read it and know that it's extreme. But two thoughts come to mind in response:

The first is that obama's goal here isn't to destroy the Right (although if we let him roll over us, he'll be delighted in doing so...) but merely to cripple the country so that we're no longer the America of Reagan, the America that can liberate 50 million. He wants us to be an America that won't even want to do this; to turn our backs on freedom, completely. To become the land that people who seek Liberty and Freedom will take boats and airplanes to flee from.

The second thought: "this can't really be happening here, to me..." - What the Frog was thinking as the water temperature slowly got warmer and warmer in the pot.

And you never will get answers. The RINO-led GOP has been coopted by the Demrat Commie Party. It will never permit a conservative to have a meaningful place at the table.

ACORN/SEIU using CRA lawsuits that Hussein started with Fannie & Freddie wiped out our financial system. This is an outrage.

The financial destruction wasn't complete. But now, with this new "legislation to establish a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA)," Dems aim to complete the destruction. The CFPA will do for consumer debt what CRA did for mortgages.

That ACORN would be involved is a no-brainer. Bankrupting the system, and thereby paving the way for radical revolutionary change, is literally what ACORN was created for.

So what can we do? If we can’t stop the funding to ACORN how can we hope to win the battle of Constitutional principles? I’ve already emailed my congressional representatives.
“Sir:
It has come to my attention that the ‘de-funding’ of ACORN is only valid until the end of October 2009 and that they are eligible for additional funding starting November 1, 2009.
Is this true?
If it is true, what are you doing to ensure that this corrupt criminal organization will not receive any more funding from the federal government (read: tax payer money)?”

What else can we do to make our voices heard?
Is there no one with access to power who is willing to stand in the front line at Lexington anymore? Are we?
I’m tired of waking up every morning feeling like I should apologize to Samuel Adams over and over.

Dead end. The only way to make a place for ourselves in the GOP is to stage a coup. Are you prepared to do that? More to the point, are conservatives prepared to do that?

Personally, I wouldn’t waste my time. Even if the RINOs were ousted, they and their Demrat buddies would be in court quicker than you can say lawyer. The ability to run conservative candidates in the New GOP would be tied up for years as multiple court challenges were dealt with. Onada and his angry band of commies will see to that.

Actually I *am* prepared to support the wholesale change of Republican leadership.

Over the next decade I believe a real Conservative party may emerge. But lacking a miracle this cannot happen - including building an effective political party infrastructure - in time for 2012 much less 2010 IMHO.

Now, if there has been significant Conservative action behind the scenes, with people like Sarah, and they present a workable plan then I'd vote for it. But I see no evidence of this happening and history doesn't indicate that Conservatives work that way unless they've finally taken a page out of the left's playbook. (The left has been active 100% of the time since the 1960s at least. And, as we've noticed, they are now in power.)
