Just how effective has Sarah Palins intervention in the NY23 special election been? Douglas Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate that got Palins endorsement, raised $116,000 in a single day, according to a source within the campaign. The source told me to refer back to Chris Cillizzas coverage of the race at the Washington Post blog The Fix, which noted that Hoffman had raised $210,000 over the course of a week.
Stacy McCain confirmed this with another source in the campaign. He has a few updates as well on Democratic fundraising in the contest.
If nothing else, this confirms the power that Palin has with the conservative base. She can raise money hand over fist, even with some considerable negatives with other constituencies. If Hoffman winds up winning this election, Palin will become a very popular woman in the 2010 campaign, especially in Blue Dog Democrat districts where conservatives have grown appalled by the direction of a Democratic Congress. Even if he doesnt, this has been an impressive demonstration of influence and power.
I’ll take:
Santorum
Palin
Thompson
Forbes
over RNC anyday.
Newt is sooooooo YESTERDAY.
Sarah is TODAY!
We are all going rogue now.
When Palin announced she was resigning, she said that she would support conservative candidates, whether they were repub, dems or no party at all. She’s a woman of her word, honesty and integrity first. Unlike, Mitt, Huck and Pawlenty, who are all sitting on the fence, Palin knew what she had to do, and did it.
I hope Palin goes to Hoffman’s district and appears at a couple of rallies with him during the weekend before the election. I’ll bet practically every voter in the district would turn out, even democrats. Money, huge crowds, integrity, and honesty, that is Palin Power at its finest
Donated $25.00-go Doug!
Well said.

Wonder how much money he’s out because his website wasn’t up to the task. I’ll never understand people who have a website, especially someone who really needs all the warm fuzzies they can get, not making darn sure it works right every time!
IMHO, we conservatives have nothing to lose. Face it, we don’t like the lame choices they force on us so we aren’t out anything if we hold out for the candidate of our choice. The GOP has a lot more to lose by refusing to embrace conservatives than we do by trying to keep their feet to the fire.
I wish I could figure out why they think it worked in 1996 but won’t work now. We’ve tried it their way for nearly 20 years now and it’s gotten nowhere.
Frankly, it’s easier just to write a conventional check. I don’t like posting all the info they want, anyway. They should set up a paypal.
For what it’s worth-no conservative would ever get elected in this blue state. Snow and Collins are an aberration inMaine
even with some considerable negatives with other constituencies.
puh- lease
not in my mind
“For what its worth-no conservative would ever get elected in this blue state. Snow and Collins are an aberration in Maine....”
When I left Maine several years ago, there were lots of hard-working folks there. Am I now hearing they’ve all been reduced hand-out queens and socialists in an environmental utopia??? Say it ain’t so...
Let Collins and Snowe become an “abberation” in the Democratic Party since they vote that way anyway.
Sorry-it’s true. Far north, we have some hard-working, family value republicans, but here in the south, we are just a bedroom community of Massholechusetts.
That’s right. A win for Hoffman is a win for the people of NY and a big plus for Palin.
i sent $100.00 this afternoon. We need to support Free Republic also.
I did a $20 bump this morning but have decided I need a higher stake to make it fun, so another $100 bump all the way from California this afternoon.
This is the conservative “perfect storm”.
GO Hoffman! GO Sarah!
good job. we need others to help this republican to win
