Prelude to Republican Fratricide
NewMajority ^ | October 22nd, 2009 at 10:04 am | David Frum

At the beginning of the summer, most observers expected Republicans to win all three of the big elections on Nov. 3. Two weeks out, it suddenly looks very possible that Republicans will win only one: the Virginia governor’s race. The other two will be lost—not to superior Democratic organizing and messaging, but to the GOP’s own divisions.

By all rights, the special election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District should be a Republican cakewalk. Stretching across the hunting and fishing towns along the Great Lakes and Canadian border, the district contains Fort Drum, base of the 10th Mountain division, and re-elected its Republican congressman in the disaster years of 2006 and 2008 by margins of 60-plus percent.

Yet polls show the Republican candidate in serious trouble. State Republican Party leaders prevented an open primary race and instead engineered the nomination of one of their own, moderate, pro-choice Assemblywoman Deirdre Scozzafava.

Angry conservatives in the 23rd rebelled, rallying to the third-party candidacy of local accountant Doug Hoffman. Hoffman and Scozzafava are splitting the Republican vote between them, allowing Democrat Bill Owen to emerge as the front-runner.

The problem in NY23 is that the victories in 2006 and 2008 were with a conservative candidate. John McHugh had a 71.55% lifetime rating from the American Conservatives Union and an 82% cumulative rating from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. If the Republicans had put up a candidate with similar positions on the issues, this would have been a cakewalk. Instead they gave us the DIABLO, Scozzafava.

Hoffman is the right candidate for this district. His views are closest to the Congressman who won last year’s election with over 65% of the vote.

Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).

Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.

Scozzafava also holds these positions:

Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.

This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.

There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year. Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal).

Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district.

moderate, pro-choice Assemblywoman Deirdre Scozzafava.

Moderate? MODERATE?? Frum, you ignorant slut, Scozzafave was endorsed by Kos. KOS. She's a moderate only in your RINO-addled Beltway universe.

If anyone had any doubt that Frum was an idiot, this column should remove it without a trace.

We need to get Michael Steele replaced immediately by someone who has the gravitas (hint) to take on the DC power brokers in the Repub party so that conservatives can run for office on the R ticket.

Draft Dick Cheney and his daughter, Liz, for this important task.

* Pro choice
* In favor of gay marriage
* In favor of Cap and Trade (I need to check my sources on this. Newt said she opposed this)
* In favor of Employee Free Choice Act (Card Check)
* In favor of the Stimulus
* In favor of Bank Bailouts

Why the h*** is this idiot a Republican, and why did the local party nominate her?

To the press, a “moderate” is any liberal, no matter how far left,

that lies on their registration and claims an “R” after their name.

To them, anyone who doesn't endorse gay marriage and pro-abortion, by default, is out-of-mainstream, hard-core conservative.

The author of this piece, David Frum, is no friend of conservatism. He is a RINO maker and supporter. He wants the GOP to remain squishy on every issue. Go Hoffman! Shame on the NY GOP and Newt for supporting the socialist, Scozzafava.

It is time to stop blaming the conservative voter and start blaming the lame duck party.

Or, as has been said before, given the choice of a Democrat Liberal and a GOP Liberal, the people go for the genuine Democrat article every time.

Which is why Scozzafava needs to do the right thing and get the hell out of the way so Hoffman—the conservative who SHOULD have been the Republican candidate—can win the race.

Frum’s problem, and the problem of so many Beltway insiders like him, is that they blame the conservatives for not rolling over and taking it when the Republicans nominate, in effect, a Democrat as a Republican candidate. He’s got it exactly backward. The problem is that the Republican power brokers refuse to listen to their base—us—when we tell them, again and again and again, that CONSERVATIVES WIN ELECTIONS. And if it takes a Democrat representing the New York 23rd, then maybe that’s what it’ll take to wake these morons up.

The undeniable truth is that Hoffman will throw this election to the Democrat. And this is just the first of many articles ridiculing the penchant for a “principles above politics” approach by the far right.
