Put me on the list, please
I would like to be added to the philosophy ping list. THANKS!
The chief parasites are politicians who, with rare exception, have never and could never produce anything of value, but think they ought to have the power to regulate everything the producers create and provide.
What do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution. John Adams
Tell that to the people who survived Concentration Camps. Tell that to the families of children being held in Saddam's prisons as leverage against the parents.

This guy's an idiot. If he doesn't know what "martial law" is, how can we take him seriously?
I am reminded of a story I once heard, and which may be apocryphal.
If so, well then-- it is fake, but accurate :)
A visitor to the studio of the sculptor Auguste Rodin asked, "Is it difficult to sculpt?"
Rodin replied, "No, It is very simple. You use hammer and chisel, and cut away what you do not want."
Simple? Yes. Easy? No.
I await the next installment...

There are many good points in the article. However, the author seems to believe that the only choice is between a hot war and a producer strike or series strikes of some sort. Solutions are not limited to just these two choices.
The author also seems to think that it would take a very large percentage of the population to effect a Revolution... Not so - our own American Revolution had less than 25% of the population as original active participants and/or strong - outspoken supporters.
Producer strikes could and would certainly be helpful... However, a big trucker strike would bring on Federal Intervention that most truckers would not confront.
What would work (especially if repeated) is a MASSIVE - beyond massive March on DC. And I mean MASSIVE... up to three or four million people.
The 9/12 March on DC was impressive... I believe there were at least one million people there. I have never seen anything like it in my life. It did have an effect - just not enough.
The secret to the next March on DC is more organization and many more people... PLUS we do one thing - WE DON’T LEAVE!!!
We end our Sunday Protest Demonstration at dusk and just STAY... No amount of DC Police, and or military can remove millions of people who do not want to be moved...
If there was forceful removal attempts it would backfire... there would be a million cameras and video cams on hand - plus media coverage... beamed up live to satellite.
If we Marched on DC and STAYED - standing in the streets several million strong, then sit down, stop traffic through Monday, Tuesday and or longer our demands would be met.
This would of course be non violent, civil disobedience, interlocked arms when necessary, lots of beating drums , loud bag pipes, noise, patriotic music, loud speakers and more ...
It would shake the government to its core. Velvet Revolutions do work... recent history proves this to be so.
(Yes - I know the government beat up a bunch of veterans nearly a century ago... but that was then and this is now... they didn’t have several million cell phones with cameras on hand then... and 24/7 Cable News. Any sort of violence against protesting Americans would only draw tens of thousands more to the streets to replace any that actually get hauled away).
Perhaps of interest.
Including the formation of this country, apparently.
We are witnessing the ‘death spiral of the welfare state’.
If we’re lucky it’ll be resolved in 5 years. Typical predictions are around 10 years, but we could loose an entire generation if the American citizen does not give up the Big Lie, that the government can fix ‘it’.
Our Democracy based on individual liberty is being replace with ‘corporatism’ or authoritarian central planning.
Yesterday, Paul Krugman commented on the ‘mystery factor’, the factor that eludes the Obama Administration as to why the economy isn’t improving. They are poor judges of human nature.
With all the many flaws President Bush had, he understood what drove the economy. The revenue collected by the US government was unprecidented.
The current economic condition is a result of loss of faith and confidence with our government.
“Marshal law”? Are you referring to parade marshals, fire marshals, or US Marshals?
...except for the birth of the United States of America.
...and the defeat of Nazi Germany.
...and the defeat of Imperial Japan.
...and the end of slavery in America.
...and halting the spread of Communism in many parts of the world.
All I am saying is give war a chance. :-)
What are the producers going to feed their families with if they go on strike? Most of them live paycheck from paycheck.
This is what brought down the Soviet Union. In part, because the Cold War played a huge role in bringing it down as well, and there is no direct analiogy to it today with respect to powers that be in the US. But what played a part and is akin to what the author is suggesting, was a lack of interest in work. It was not a strike. In the Soviet Union you could not organize a strike anyway, you’d end up in jail. But everyone in his own mind made the uncomplicated calculus and he realized that while some level of effort is required for survival, hard work is not required, and is in fact reducing the very chance of survival. So people worked, but not very much, just enough not to be caught in sabotage. Workers went to their factories and played dominoes. Doctors only provided quality care to whoever bribed them. Plumbers and electricians expected cash in hand, or no repairs were done.
Something similar will be happening in the US: producers will produce just enough not to get fired, and because everyone will have that attitude, very few producers will actually be fired. The only hard work that will be done will be on the cash basis in the underground non-taxed economy. But strike, no, there won’t be one.
Thumbs Up...
The 2nd is 2nd for a reason - and not 1st.
The 2nd amendment protects the 1st; and it’s the 1st that must be exercised more vigorously. The idea being, not to chop the tree down (Useful Idiot Timothy McVeigh style), but to the nudge the tree of liberty back into the founder’s intended form.
