Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

The morons on FOX said so.
Thank You!
reporter on Fox31 is saying that, at a briefing, they were told that this craft may have reach as high as 15,000 feet.
Local news (The Denver Channel; 7News) saying that it is reported that the boy crawled into a box that was attached to the bottom and is not there now.
Oh no.
I know what you mean. For a couple of hours, I felt normal again.
See post 1035.
Thank You!
Thank you for being annoyed, mr know it all!
Oh, Lord, let him be stuck in a pine tree canopy. Unharmed.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

There was internal structure to the balloon... it was not a single compartment.
It has maybe 100 words in it.
I recall it well.
Yes, I did think they acted very weird. I couldn’t figure it out. The almost acted afraid of it. Perhaps they were waiting for the news feed to be cut. Weird. Unless they already had reports of an falling object from it. Still, strange indeed.
I heard that on Fox as soon as the story broke. America chased this thing thinking a boy was inside for two hours. The father built this craft and would know right away that the compartment was gone. They would have immediately broke the news that the basket/compartment was missing.
On MSNBC they showed this thing pretty close-up. It looked as if the whole thing was covered with the mylar, and that there was no “door” or any other place that the kid could have gotten in.
Obviously, the dad that constructed this knew that, and one would assume that he told the authorities that there was no way that the kid was riding in what was left in the sky being photographed. The only way the kid would be riding would be in another attached “box” that they are talking about falling off.
I’m not sure why they even bothered tracking the balloon, as they would have had to know from the parents that there was no passenger compartment remaining.
According to people posting on that YouTube video, they’re saying that the boy’s body has just been found. Don’t know how true it is...
Been watching FOX & MSNBC for hours and there never was a basket attached for the two hours camera followed it.
Brother says he was in it and bro believes he fell off. That was mentioned quite a while ago but they (assumedly) withheld info about the basket.
Did authorities purpose withhold info to prevent civilians from looking for the boy on the ground?
Maximum altitude up to 15,000 feet — I just heard that too.
