WASHINGTON A second Republican senator signaled Wednesday she's open to voting for sweeping health care legislation this year, putting President Barack Obama closer to a historic achievement that has eluded generations of Democratic leaders.
But Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, told The Associated Press that the bill approved Tuesday by the Finance Committee needs substantial improvements to make coverage more affordable, contain costs, and protect Medicare. Nevertheless, she joined her Maine GOP colleague Sen. Olympia Snowe in endorsing the goal of far-reaching changes.

Another of Obama’s Comfort Girls heard from.
RINOs.
Reliable as ever.
These SOB elitists will saddle us with debt and shit healthcare for generations.
You’re on if we get the eastern half of BC too.
I live in Maine, and I can assure you that Maine is NOT all liberal. There are conservatives here, and I’m one of them....granted, I’m not a native of Maine....I lived on Long Island, New York and in Southern California, too.
I have a lot of relatives in Massachusetts, too, and most of them are staunch conservatives.
We have conservatives in our state government, although they are a minority. Our two members of the House of Representatives are both democrats, and the democrats control the state government.
Driving around last Fall, there were tons of McCain/Palin signs everywhere. Sarah Palin gave a speech at the Bangor International Airport last October, and she was introduced by Olympia Snowe of all people, who gave a very long speech as she introduced Sarah to the crowd.
Also, the 2nd Amendment is just as strong here in Maine as it is in Texas. Even the democrat politicians here, with a few exceptions, are pro-second amendment. The deer hunting season starts soon and it’s a big deal around here. Guns are everywhere but our crime rate is low.
Snowe and Collins keep getting re-elected because the democrats keep running candidates that are so left-wing it makes Snowe and Collins look like conservatives in comparison, which they are not. Many has an aging population and a lot of poverty in the northern part of the state, and these people tend to favor big government programs.
I wish there were term limits here in Maine....I think it’s the only way we’re going to get rid of these two Stimulus Sisters.
The best thing Maine every did was break away from Massachusetts.
Massachusetts is a gun grabbing state....Maine is one of the most pro-second amendment states in the country.
Exactly.
If you Freepers think Susan Collins is bad, you should have seen her democrat opponent in last November’s senate race, former 1st district congressman Tom Allen. He’s a moonbat’s man. Ultra-liberal!
A disgrace is being to polite
So don't you find Maine's otherwise liberalism confusing? What's the deal there? Are they gerrymandered to the point where a bunch of urbanites in Portland have all the votes? Is everyone there on welfare?
What the people are waiting for is some sign of Conservative conviction
Yeah, this is not news.
That's utter nonsense. The assumption is that the good are vastly outnumbered by the wicked and the states in question are reliable leftist rubber stamps whose voting habits are going to kill the country and our childrens' futures.
It was never suggested that there are no good people in leftist states. What I'm saying is that they're outnumbered and powerless.
When the defining issue of the age comes, these two vote Democrat.
We should pro-actively kick them out of the Party.
They are not Republicans, they are Big Government Deficit Spending Democrats.
Deal. Where do I sign. All trades final.
The state of Maine has about 0.3% of the US population yet its 2 “senators” have managed to wreak incredible havoc on the nation in an unrelenting assault on the Constitution.
You would think they would be embarrassed to use their position to undermine the overwhelming majority opinion of constituents of the party they belong to, but socialism is a mental disease.
No matter, this legislation and its provision that mandates individuals to purchase medical insurance is grossly unconstitutional and will be declared so by the SCOTUS should it ever be enacted into law
“Oh please Olympia, let me help kill the country, too!”
>>> “reliable leftist rubber stamps whose voting habits are going to kill the country and our children’s futures. “
The country... yes. its already dead.
but.. Our children’s futures are not irrevocably tied to the fate of this particular union or the actions and decisions of people we “disagree” with. It really rests on OUR shoulders whether or not WE will tie our children’s fate and futures to the consequences of the ignorant behavior and “judgment” of those we disagree with in the strongest sense of the word.
We are still free to chose to disassociate ourselves from those that we find it impossible to live with. We can still chose to cut the ties that bind ourselves and our children’s future to the outcome of bad decisions made by marxists and the idiots who vote for them.
There is NO law in effect or force of nature or physics that precludes us from cutting the bonds. There is NOTHING keeping us from freedom and liberty if that is what we chose to have. It can be ours in a minute if we choose to have it, and it can be ours forever if we guard it jealously. No judge or politician, or community organizer can place the chains back on us unless he picks up a weapon and does it forcefully, but they will have to contend with our weapons and determination if they choose that course. Maybe they will, maybe they wont... What IS sure, is that you and your children WILL be slaves if we don’t end this. What is possible is that you and all of our posterity WILL have a chance for real freedom and liberty if we do dissociate ourselves from the marxists (one way or another).
Wow i”m really frigging surprised here!
Bravo Maine!!
It’s too bad.
One of my favorite italian resteraunts in the world is on York Beach, ME.
bummer.
Hey it’s not Mimo’s fault.
I’ll still give him the business at least.
I will NEVER buy anything that comes from Maine. And I will carefully check potatoes to make sure they are not grown in Maine.
Maine can go to hell. I’ll not support it in any way.
