Graham: GOP 'not going to be the party of angry white guys'
CNN ^ | October 13, 2009

(CNN) – South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has always enjoyed a little back-and-forth with belligerent audiences.

He was at it again on Monday night as he faced down an angry town hall crowd in Greenville packed with libertarians and Tea Party activists who accused at the Republican senator of ditching conservative principles by working with Democrats on issues like climate change and voting to send Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.

But Graham stressed a mantra he's repeated many times since his friend John McCain lost the presidential election last November — that the GOP must reach out to different constituencies, or face extinction.

"I'm not going to leave the Republican Party," Graham said when one questioned asked him why he hasn't yet joined the Democrats. "I'm going to grow it. We're not going to be the party of angry white guys."

His comments were met with a salvo of boos and shouts of "Ron Paul!"

The Republican Party hasn’t lost me yet, but Graham lost me long ago.

I don’t trust him on any topic.

Ooooooh! Lindsay is afraid of Ron Paul! Good!

Guys like Graham are afraid of losing their statist power to the Constitutional, small-government, pro-Liberty message like Ron Paul's, and they should be!

That Lindsay Graham is afraid of Ron Paul diminishes my already low esteem for the little twerp.

He has lost any concept of who his supporters are. And who are his enemies.

The arrogance of these bastards! We let them get to powerful. I have to wonder if anything can ever be done about them. They sure don’t seem to worried.

He said if the republicans don’t broaden their appeal we’ll end up with a congress full of liberals. Is this guy blind or just stupid? He and McIdiot make the congress FULL of liberals. God, I hate these people.

See my tag line.

Abe’s party would now be democrats. Johson’s party would now be republicans. So, Graham just wants to take the part back to it’s roots.

Lots of post, I know, but I’m pissed! I notice he said “he” was going to grow the party. He believes it’s his party and he’ll priss if he wants to.

I disagree. He knows who his supporters are: McCain & Obama -- the Big Government Boys. And he knows who his enemy is: Ron Paul -- the Small Government Guy . He's right to be scared

His enemies go far beyond the narrow borders of Paulistan.

It's called the Republican base.

Are there any provisions under SC law allowing for a recall or impeachment of Graham?

He’s right. At this rate it will be the party of no one.
I left after being a member my entire adult life, but enough was enough.

Graham: GOP 'not going to be the party of angry white guys'

Lindsey, you're going to find that it's not only the GOP but many voters who will be the angry deluge, male and female and of all races, that will sweep you and other friggin liberals away to regions of outer darkness. Get ready to suffer at the polls, baby.

Senator Graham is right. The GOP must not become the 21st century version of the Dixiecrats. We don't need the South, and we don't need bigots in general.

The new GOP will be a multiracial party of Hispanics, moderates, and more mainstream conservatives with no regional albatross around our necks. Any who don't like that need to get out. No more Ron Paul losertarians, conspiracy theorists, Chuck Baldwin disciples, religious bigots, racists, antisemites, anti-immigrants, secessionists, protectionists, or anti-government extremists. Leave now and never darken our doorstep again.

That shows how little you know about history.

I hate all politicians, including republicans.

You are exactly the type of which Senator Graham was speaking. Have fun in the wilderness.
