Public Discourse: Our energy secretary applauds and encourages companies to leave the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over its position on climate change. Should any Cabinet secretary, with the powers of government behind him, be threatening U.S. companies?
Part of the climate-change mantra is that the debate is over and the science is settled. Just to make sure, environmental groups have sought to pressure businesses to go green or at least keep silent. Now it would appear the whole weight of the federal government is being thrown behind this campaign to coerce and silence real and potential opposition.
On Thursday, Steven Chu, President Obama's energy secretary, told attendees at a solar power event on the National Mall that it's "wonderful" to see companies like Exelon, Apple and Pacific Gas & Electric leave the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is a pro-capitalism, pro-free-enterprise association of businesses that has fought against climate treaties like Kyoto and legislation such as Waxman-Markey as futile efforts not founded in science that are economically damaging and recipes for global poverty.
"I think it's wonderful," Chu told reporters at the event. He said that companies that left the 3-million-member chamber objected to "foot-dragging" and "denials" and realize that efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases are "part of our economic future in the United States."

White Roof is at it again eh?
Crackpots always think themselves right. Choo Choo is no exception.
We’ll see how wonderful things are for Steve Jobs when sales for his gadgets suddenly plummet and Apple Stores begin closing their doors due to consumers having to choose between keeping the lights on and eating, which won’t leave much money for an iPhone, MAC, or iPod.
Obama Cap and Tax - just another nail in the coffin of American enterprise, all according to plan to bring America down to turd world status and turn over our sovereignty to the UN. Global redistribution of America’s wealth. Gee I wonder what will happen when the nation, and the world, runs out of other people’s money??
Your plan is unacceptable to the American people, Chu.
Right on the money. Great editorial.
Bump!
Looks like when Zero appointed this bonehead, Steven bit off more than he could Chu.
I have always felt it deep inside my gut-that intuition thing-that Obama knows EXACTLY what he is doing and how he wants to get there, despite his lack of governmental experience per se.
Obama has an agenda and it is decidedly anti-American. He and his fellow comrades have a malevolent plan in place, and they are working assiduously to implement it. Soros is a major string puller in this kabuki dance, his Islamist friends will be the main beneficiaries.
Through their dismantling of the economy; through their takeover of MAJOR companies; through his propping up dictators, AND through weakening the US abroad, Obama is steadily marching the US towards its deconstruction.
Unless one can convince themselves that every destructive thing he is doing is an accident, then there is NO other explanation.
He is by far the most dangerous man on the world stage since Hitler. This is not to say that he will give orders to build killing fields, but this is to say that he is PURPOSEFULLY creating conditions whereby the US will sooner, rather than later, be referred to as the late, great USA.
His goal is to lead a world confederation in one form or another. He is well on his way.
I told my wife once that the best way to get the “yute’s” of America off the GW/environmental bandwagon is make them live in a post cheap energy world for a while. No iPods, cell phones, no quick trip to the Mall in the car, no Big Screens etc. Anything that uses gasoline, electricity or is recharged with electricity is tossed or the use is severely curtailed. I imagine the selfish, spoiled little rug rats would turn on the cuddly little polar bears like a pack of hungry wolves.
They will destroy American industry just like they destroyed real estate and the banks.
It is his mission to destroy the USA.
LOL! They will indeed.

Earlierthis month, San Francisco-based PG&E took the extraordinary step of quitting the chamber because of its "extreme rhetoric and obstructionist tactics" as the debate over global warming legislation heats up in Congress. Two other utility companies, New Mexico's PNM and Chicago's Exelon, followed PG&E's lead, and other companies are under pressure to join the exodus. On Tuesday,... |

Fulton, IIIA massive energy bill that has already passed the House, and is currently before the Senate, would create new government programs that would not only encourage the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by utilities and energy companies, but set limits over time as to the quantity of that reduction over the nextseveral years. The US Chamber of Commerce (USCC), a private business federation that is not affiliated with the federal government, went on record last August as being skeptical of any legislative or regulatory effort that assumes greenhouse gasses truly endanger human health. Late last month, the Chamber voiced... |
