"It takes on average 12 years and over US$350 million to get a new drug from the laboratory onto the pharmacy shelf. Once a company develops a drug, it undergoes around three and a half years of laboratory testing, before an application is made to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin testing the drug in humans. Only one in 1000 of the compounds that enter laboratory testing will ever make it to human testing." --- FDA Approval Process

and they developed and got this vaccine on the market in just a few months time? ;-)

Snowball chance in hell of winning, but the right thing to do to make the effort. These guys are trying to save a lot of lives, and maybe the news reports alone will open some people’s eyes to the true story. Glenn Beck tried yesterday.

Heard this evening that the two Obama daughters WILL NOT be vaccinated for H1N1.

Now I wonder what the First Family knows that the rest of us aren’t supposed to know?

A friend's son was advised by a doctor he had the *regular* *seasonal* flu recently and was prescribed Tamiflu.

Even with insurance, the cost was over $100 for 5 doses.

Whether this vaccine is good or bad, profits are definitely at the forefront.

“And the core of the argument is that they have not done the proper safety and efficacy tests on the vaccine to allow it to be release at this time.”

Considering how many TRULY important drugs are DENIED or DELAYED because of the FDA’s multi-stage approval process, it's rather remarkable how they just cut through their own red tape to fast track a vaccine to the public, combining Squalene (Shark Liver Oil) and Thiomersal (Mercury - C9H9HgNaO2S) — without thoroughly testing it.

If only the FDA would get out of the way for other promising treatments.

The FDA has already violated their own rules regarding proper testing procedures at least once, after the EPA mandated the replacement of CFC propellants (used in asthma and respiratory inhalers). These propellants had an ~ 50 year safety record, and the replacements were never fully tested. They have proved to be a decidedly inferior replacement.

This was a purely political decision to ‘save the ozone layer’. I’m certain the H1N1 vaccine falls in the same category - driven by politics not science or medicine.

The vaccine / adjuvant combination being referred to as the "swine flu vaccine" has apparently never been safety tested or approved by the FDA

Typical. Either it has or it hasn't. But not knowing that doesn't stop someone from trying to use the situation to draw attention to his cause.

Good! Good!

However:
1. Breaking the law? They don't care.

2. Some will suffer life threatening side effects? They don't care.

You are being much too rational. The motivation for desiring to inoculate everyone in the country is mostly left wing emotionalism. Sorta like global warming. Create an imaginary crisis, then save everyone from it.

They'll need to strap me to a gurney and force into my arm. IOW, we won't be getting it.

I am recovering from both flu (may be H1N1 but was not tested) and pneumonia. As flus go ... hurts more in the joints but does not last the 2 weeks that I have experienced with other flus.

Have no fear, it will be tested on those who are dumb enough to get the shot.

A little off topic, but who pays for these shots. I’ve heard comments on the radio that people can get them for free. I’ve also heard that certain local drug stores are charging a nominal fee, about 20-30 dollars, for them. Does anyone know the full story on this?

Do they normally publish clinical trial results for the seasonal flu vaccine?? My doc says this vaccine is "using the same technology" as the seasonal flu vaccine and that it would have been included in the seasonal vaccine if it had been detected earlier.

I'm really conflicted about getting the swine flu vaccine. I'm almost 8 mos pregnant (one of "high risk" groups). Apparently this flu is hard on pregnant women w/us being 6x more likely to die from it because it's such a respiratory illness. I am normally against getting a flu vaccine and really don't want to get this one, but don't know which is worse: putting this vaccine in my (and my baby's) body, or subjecting both of us (not to mention my hubby and 2 y.o.) to the flu if I do get sick. Of course, my OB is telling me to get the vaccine....

They used the normal manufacturing standards and rules that they use for developing and bringing to production any influenza vaccine. The system has been in place for decades. It is tried and trued.

This is just plain silliness. H1N1 is a variant, and the vaccine production process does not need reinventing or retesting.

Time is of the essence. Get your shot. The swine flu sucks.

We will probably learn that “the vaccine” was approved because the FDA knows that sugar water without any sugar IS NOT harmful to people.

Why make the producers spend millions to prove what is already known? Just sell “the vaccine” and claim your profits big Pharma and oh yeah, support health care.

[[Vaccine / adjuvant combination has never been properly tested]]

This statement is complete BS- the regular flu vaccine goes through NO testing- the swine flue vacinne has gone through 4 months of testing, 100’s of thousands of vacinations have been given with no ill effects, and this vacine is the EXACT same vacine as the regular flu vaccine- the only difference is that some brands have thermosol (sp?) which is murcury- simpyl demand that you get the ones without thermosol- This vaccine is nothign more than the regular flu vaccine with the active component of regular flu removed, and the swine flu component plugged in- they do this with EVERY flu season- remove the old component, and plug the new one in (I’m not explaining htis right- but basically, this is hte jist)

1 person in a couple of million MIGHT get guillian Barre syndrom fro mthe vacine, HOWEVER, 1 person in 100,000 people WILL die from this swine flu- Since April until last month, only 600 people have died from the flu- BUT in the recent month, 13000 people have died- this is a dramatic increase i nthe number of deaths.

Since the elite congress is in charge of the nation they should lead by example and get the dam shot first!

Then I will decide. Not until.

I’m conflicted. I contacted a wicked flu last year that almost killed me. Nothing helped me. The antibiotic choices were running dry. I am young and healthy. The flu ran its course prior to “swine flu” being reported as the culprit. However, I was infected in the high risk areas of the US and brought it back to my state.

Do I get my first shot to prevent a worse version of this type of flu? Or am I immune to the virus since I survived last year’s hell?

And if I and over 50,000 others die because of this virus, what will you say then?

""The FDA is required by law to establish that a vaccine is safe and effective before it can be given to the public," said Turner. "We are arguing that they did not establish that the vaccine was effective, and did not establish that it was safe. They are trying to get it on the market by a waiver."

Vaccine May Be More Dangerous Than Swine Flu

I think I’ve had the swine flu for the past four days. Felt tired, feverish and bit of a stomach upset plus some congestion. I found out the swine flu is running through our high school and I really think I caught it. IF SO...WHAT IS THE HYPE ALL ABOUT!

My two kids (7 and 3) have come down with flu. I took my 7-year-old son to the ER on a Sunday night because no doc’s offices or ermergency care clinics were open and his fever would not break. I am glad I did - he was not responding to Motrin and I didn’t want that fever to go any higher.

And my wife is 6+ months pregnant, so her doc had her get the flu shot, and she will get H1N1 shot when it arrives - I think.

I got the basic flu shot at work and I am the only one in my house who is flu-free. Well, I have felt cruddy, but I think it is from taking care of the rest of them and missing meals, etc.

Flu is nasty stuff, and this bout seems to hit young kids hard.
