COPENHAGEN — President Obama met here Friday with Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, his Afghanistan commander, to discuss a possible change in strategy and proposed troop buildup in the eight-year-old war. The meeting had not been previously announced.

General McChrystal flew here from London, where he was on business, and joined Mr. Obama in the forward cabin of Air Force One on the tarmac of the Copenhagen airport for 25 minutes after the president finished his presentation to the International Olympic Committee on behalf of Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Games.

Music to my eyes. Losing this actually could be his real Waterloo moment and I would applaud that.

Not only that, Brazil is still an ally, I wouldn’t want to alienate them any more than we have some of our other Southern Hemisphere partners...read Columbia trade treaty. etc.

I see she's got another one of those friggin belts. Do you think it's an attempt to draw attention away from the south forty? That has its own dangers.

Thanks for the report. I wonder whether the U.S. $10B loan to Brazil’s (and Soros’) Petrobras earlier this year was used as a big wooden whuppin’ plank in the decision process.

Who will get the Olympics? Madrid, says Google index

Who will get the 2016 summer Olympic Games?

That’s one of the world’s hottest questions right now. The city chosen to host the 2016 Olympics will be announced tomorrow in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The field is down to four finalists to host the Olympics: Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Chicago.

Rio and Chicago are seen as the favorites to host the Olympics in 2016, and many think the Obamas’ visit to Denmark on behalf of their Chicago hometown will swing the voters toward the Windy City.

But Madrid will emerge as the winner of the 2016 Games, if Google Trends has any predictive value.

There has been more Internet search traffic for Madrid over the past 12 months and 30 days than any of the other three finalists. Chicago is second, and Rio is third.

Nobody is making the claim that this is a scientific way to predict the results of the Olympic Games host question. It’s entirely possible that Madrid’s higher traffic count is unrelated to its Olympic bid.

But the index would seem to have at least some merit. Decision-makers have to carefully research each potential host city to determine how good a fit it would be for the Olympic Games. Google is now the de facto starting point for research.

The decision on who will host the 2016 Olympics is scheduled to be announced tomorrow at 12:30 EDT. We’ll see if the “Google Index’s” choice of Madrid was correct.

—FWIW

They’ve got his number right from the start...”Chicago lobbyist and U.S. President”

The order of titles is exactly right.

A softer version of the boob belt. Is the bow wilted, or is it simply another fashion trend disaster?

Where the president who talks like a socialist will aid and abet his capitalist cronies in screwing American taxpayers. Some animals are more equal than others, eh?

If that be so, why is Chicago even in the running?

Remains to be seen if the IOC likes being "talked at."

No way! This will happen!

OLM will be in Chicago in 2016. No question otherwise zero would have never been there.

Between the threats and the cash 2016 has been bought and paid for by the Chicago mob. Just too much at stake here.
