Vanity: Petition to extradite Roman Polansky
Moral Outrage | 10/01/09 | Hawes

I would like to start a petition to be delivered to the Swiss Embassy to extradite Roman Polansky. Can someone help me set up the petition and help spread; hollywood does not speak for us! We are Americans and its time the world starting hearing our voice. The world does not have a true picture of us, they are shaped by our news media which we all know is not reliable. It's time that the world starts hearing our voice in mass, that the values, courage, and core heart that built this country and beat in the chest of our forefathers is still beating strong today in its citizens.

The petition is below:

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Miscellaneous; News/Current Events; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: chat; emoting; vanity
We have learned the outstanding news of Roman Polanski's arrest by the Swiss police on September 26th, upon arrival in Zurich (Switzerland) while on his way to a film festival where he was due to receive an award for his career in filmmaking.

His arrest follows an American arrest warrant dating from 1978 against the filmmaker in a case of aggravated assault and rape of a 13 year old American citizen.

Filmmakers in France, in Europe, in the United States and around the world are dismayed by this decision and in an effort to aid their colleague in his avoidance of being brought to justice, they have clogged our airwaves with flowery tributes to him and signed petitions in an attempt to shape public opinion and circumvent the laws of the United States. The most horrific thing they have done is to discount and minimize his crime against a 13 year old child and against the citizens of the United States of America.

The passage of time in no way replaces justice, fame, acclaim nor influential friendships in no way replaces restitution by fulfilling the terms of his sentence, and a banner of immorality in the name of art in no way replaces repentance.

The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, is a victory for children’s rights world wide as it is a clear statement that no one is above the law and that the civilized nations of this world will act in unison of purpose in protecting children. . Yes, Roman Polanski is a French citizen, renowned and of international fame, that is his profession. In the United States 30 years ago, Roman Polansky assaulted a 13 year old girl with alcohol and drugs then raped and sodomized her that is his crime no passage of time or film awards satisfy justice. As his profession as a film maker is applauded, We the citizens of the United States wish to remind the world, the crime he commited was not a story line in a film, his victim was not an actress and the laws of the United States of America is not an awards ceramony where he who has the most votes wins.

In the name of justice, We the citizens of the United States request that you extradite Roman Polansky.

You can go ahead with the petition but be aware that this is a **BIG** deal in Europe with many officials of various European governments expressing disgust with our efforts to bring him back here.Given Switzerland’s *huge* dependence on the “good will” of other European countries I’d say the chances of him being extradited are very slim indeed.

Switzerland needs Europe *far* more than Europe needs Switzerland.

Nobody else makes such wonderful Swiss cheese or Swiss chocolate. And where else can you find such great yodelers?

your probably right, it probably won’t do a bit of good, but inaction and silence accomplishes nothing. I know many would label me a right wing terrorist because I am a Christian and I am a proud American. As a christian I am called to take up my cross and follow Him, as an American I was taught about the soul of this country, about the sacrifice of our men and woman-I know the petition and one voice is like trying to bring down a t-rex with a fly swatter:)

If Schwarzenegger was cool, he’d send an undercover Califorina SWAT team to extradite Polanski....with or without Swiss permission...

The comments section of all of the French papers are running heavily against Polanski.

I even learned a new French word - "les People" - meaning the MSM and arts crowd.

Petitions really aren’t worth the paper on which they’re printed. If you want to have an impact, send letters - written by hand - to your Congressman, Senators, and the President, asking that the government stand firm in its demand for extradition. And ask others who feel like you to do the same.
