WASHINGTON (AFP) US President Barack Obama said Tuesday the war in Afghanistan was not purely an "American battle" but was a broader NATO mission, as he met the western alliance's chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen. "This is not a American battle, this is a NATO mission," Obama told reporters after the Oval Office meeting, which comes as he launches a series of intense talks on whether to send more US soldiers to the Afghan war. "We are working actively and diligently to consult with NATO at every step of the way," Obama said. NATO Secretary-General Rasmussen put on a united front with Obama, arguing that "our operation in Afghanistan is not America's responsibility or burden alone, it is and it will remain a team effort." "I agree with President Obama in his approach: strategy first, then resources," Rasmussen said, adding that all NATO members were studying a grim report on the war by US commander General Stanley McChrystal. "This alliance will stay united and we will stay in Afghanistan as long as it takes to finish our job."

What a difference a month makes
When will America “get it?” Obama wants the Taliban and other Islamic terrorists to win and the US to lose.
It's that simple!
Barry shows that he is exactly what Sarkoszy claims: “Incredibly naive.”
The Europeans and NATO want no parts of Afghanistan and if they really had their way, they would pull their troops with due haste.
Therefore, Mr. Annointed idiotic moron, Afghanistan is indeed an “American battle.”
Either unchain the hand of the military, which you have blatantly bound by your pathetic rules of engagement, and let them fight to win or PULL THE OUR TROOPS OUT NOW!
But why?
Since every statement and decision he makes is political, how does he personally benefit from this? Is he pandering to the far left base?
There is something here I'm not getting.
If I was the General, I’d order troop pull-backs then drop ALL of our arsenal along the afghan and pakistan border areas until there was nothing but a hole on the entire eastern edge of those 2 countries!
Then again, maybe he's using this as a type of backroom bargaining chip with the Blue Dogs - you give me health care and I'll provide the troops for Afghanistan.
Another reason is that he's in over his head and is dragging his feet hoping for a means to vote "present". That isn't going to happen, he's going to have to make a decision (even if that decision is not to make one). Basically, he may just not want to make the tough decision because it would make him unpopular with some group and "it's all about the O". This decision doesn't glorify him.
All conjecture, but just my thoughts. No matter what, his reckless stalling is only making the situation worse and more dangerous.
[how does he personally benefit from this]
If the ‘good’ war was doing well, he’d be glorifying himself as a great Commander in Chief.
He has been told we could lose this war with out more troops...”talk to NATO, we are just consultants”.
The Buck never GETS to obama’s desk.
Man, that Obozo comment of Aug 17 is so yesterday.
Today is a different day, and Obozo is a different man, and today he will say different things.
Typical BO, spread the blame around in case things don’t work out!
The one thing BO’S an expert in is CYA!!
Soros must have updated the firmware on his policy chip.
It cracks me up that Obama would hang a picture of the moment that Sonny Liston took a dive because the Black Muslims paid him to.
It tool Emanuel & Co THIS long to come up with that silly bit of weaseling?
They’re off their game, man.
Usually, they’d be able to come up with something as lame as this within hours, maybe minutes.
What this tells me is that Obama is feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders and he just can’t handle the pressure, hence his weak attempt to “share” the responsibility.
Pathetic.
Well, if he can get those European weasels to ante up and help with the fight. That would be cool.
Guess obama doesn’t own a pair of big boy pants.
You’re exactly right. He acts like a spoiled, lazy, little sissy. He probably ran like a girl when another guy confronted him.
He wears “mom” jeans for a reason and contrary to what he said, it’s not because he hates to shop.
