William Dembski, the “intelligent design” creationist who is a professor in philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, has some rather interesting requirements for students of his creationism courses — 20% of their final grade comes from having written 10 posts promoting ID on “hostile” websites: Academic Year 2009-2010.
Spring 2009
Intelligent Design (SOUTHERN EVANGELICAL SEMINARY #AP 410, 510, and 810; May 11 – 16, 2009)
NEW! THE DUE DATE FOR ALL WORK IN THIS COURSE IS AUGUST 14, 2009. Here’s what you will need to do to wrap things up:
AP410 — This is the undegrad [sic] course. You have three things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 40% of your grade); (2) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 40% of your grade); (3) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 2,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).
AP510 — This is the masters course. You have four things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 30% of your grade); (2) write a 1,500- to 2,000-word critical review of Francis Collins’s The Language of God — for instructions, see below (20% of your grade); (3) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 30% of your grade); (4) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 3,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).
Creats strike me as acting just like liberals.
Hope you listened to Rush today. A caller a few minutes ago said that whenever he discusses stuff with libs, they run out of the room. They don’t want to listen to facts and act on their feelings. That strikes me as the same way you and your fellow creats act.
Where is the scientific proof for your viewpoint? Lets see the data, not opinions.
That’s not a Poll... it’s a post from 2006 with like 1600 replies...on both sides of the issue.
Thanks, Jim..
As we have discussed once before, this is the “missing link” in the discussion.
God gave man the mind for scientific inquiry. Most of the posts on this thread are buried in deep denial of that simple fact, and in effect, disgrace themselves in the eyes of the Almighty because of it.
It seems to me that the self-described "true conservatives" who are complaining about fundamentalist pressure on JimRob on this thread are actually Libertarians. [excerpt]Interesting observation.
Yup. That's about the size of it. All assertion, never any explanation of what supports or validates the assertion. It's just a mindless mantra....
Thanks so much for writing, count-your-change!
Libertarianism would get on much further if they werent so anti-God and anti-morality.Like quorum-busting to keep the other other folks from nominating their guy, because your guy doesn't stand a snowballs chance?
Too many of them come across as a toddler throwing a tantrum about not being able to do what they want, when they want, everyone else be damned. [excerpt]
It talks about the poll and cites the numbers from the poll. That is still a damn sight more than you have provided.
Well, what I see is science gradually abandoning evolution in favor of something else called “evolution” but nothing like the present theory.
I think I see it beginning already with the objections to citing natural selection as a major explanation for changes at the population level.
You’ve got lots of company there. Science is wonderful, fun, has provided plenty of benefit for mankind.
What most of us don’t love is the hijacking and abuse of science to promote liberal, Christian bashing agenda.
When it becomes a weapon which is used to attack people and tear down their faith, that’s just not acceptable. When science has become the new religion that is being offered to replace people’s faith, that doesn’t work either.
So?? Where’s the poll?
In fact, where’s your scientific data for creation?
...sound of crickets....
Maybe you should educate yourself and read this:
http://www.amazon.com/Tower-Babel-Evidence-against-Creationism/dp/0262661659/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
And what is the evo/scientist position on lying?
Oh? The ToE and science doesn’t address that?
No kidding......
What’s a poll except reponses to a certain idea, however expressed.
It turns out labels aren't particularly helpful. I suggested that the self-described "true conservatives" who were objecting to Fundamentalist pressure on JimRob were perhaps Libertarians.
Now I'm wondering whether they may actually be "Radical Progressives." The reason I wonder is the type of tactic being used here is straight out of the radical progressive playbook: "First of all, blame the other guy for doing what you are, in fact, already doing." Thus one manages (somehow) to self-innoculate against any suspicion that one a pillar of virtue is capable of sinking to the level of behavior of the "enemy."
It's absurd. But the description seems to fit this case: Fundamentalist Christians are being blamed for what these "Liberaltarians" (or whatever you want to call them) are doing themselves. I.e., pressuring JimRob.
Why are they pressuring JimRob? Simply to remove speech of which they disapprove from public view.
But who made them "Censor?" Haven't they ever heard of the First Amendment???
Is there some reason that you think that JR should not be aware of what is being said about him and FR, especially considering the content of that post?
Tell me, if you evos feel that way about it here, why are you here? Why aren’t you out promoting Darwin Central and making that the premier conservative science loving website?
If it weren’t for FR, DC wouldn’t exist. There wouldn’t be anything to unify them if it weren’t for the endless FR bashing that goes on there.
I wonder if DarwinCentral is a conservative science forum or just another science forum. [excerpt]You can answer that question by answering the following:
As I recall, the majority of atheists vote Democrat. And the majority of people who claim to be a [whatever religious label] but do not actually assemble with them or know the doctrines also vote Democrat.
When looking at the map colors after a general election, the most intensively believing populations vote conservative and predominately, Republican.
It's not about science, it's about inalienable rights granted by our Creator. It's about taking God seriously.
A voter either believes God or doesn't. If he doesn't, he is a social liberal even though he might be a fiscal conservative and "caucus" with us if it serves his self-interest.
I continue to be registered Republican because despite the liberal drift in the NorthEast (incl DC) - I believe the party can be turned around.
I remember when Texas was mostly Democrat, but the Republicans held their conservative ground.
Here in south-of-Chicago Illinois, the conservatives have stayed home for way too long. They became disgusted with the moral turpitude of the governor - and very sadly, are extremely slow to forgive.
Again, the conservative base is socially conservative first. When their candidates do not take God seriously and show it by being indicted/convicted of crimes or immoral behavior, they stay home - sometimes for many years.
On the national level, the 912 turnout no doubt shocked the Republicans and they may need a few more wake-up calls. But 2010 will be telling, whether they listened and field truly conservative candidates.
I'm seeing that, too, count-your-change. Something's gotta give, 'cause evolution (as presently constituted) seems to have "hit the wall" as a life science.
Which accounts for the amazing "pushback" we're seeing from these quarters in recent times. They know their days are numbered; thus their fury increases.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning.....
There was a beginning supported by the Big Bang Theory and Einsteins equations and Hubbles observations.
Gen 1:2 The earth was formless and void,...
Supported by the solar nebula theory and the proto earth.
Gen 1:20 Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures,
Scientists say that life arose in the seas.
Gen 1:24 Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind...
Gen 2:7 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground,
Shaped from clay [origin of life]

Scientists have concluded that clay was necessary for the formation of life.
Eccles 1:6 Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues swirling along; And on its circular courses the wind returns.
Scripture describes the circulating system of winds.
Eccles 1:7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again.
The Bible also describes the water cycle.
Lev 17:10 - 12 `And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. `For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, `No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.
Blood is necessary for life. The life is in the blood.
Isa 40:22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Job 9 5, 8 It is God who removes the mountains, they know not how, When He overturns them in His anger; 8. Who alone stretches out the heavens And tramples down the waves of the sea;
Expansion of the universe.
Col 1: 15- 17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authoritiesall things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
All things are being held together; gravitation, strong and weak nuclear forces, magnetism.
How do you know? Did God tell you that?
For that matter, aren't you the one who constantly ridicules people of faith? And now you're appealing to God in an effort to blackmail them into changing their behavior because if you say that God isn't happy with them, you think they'll curl up in a ball and roll over and expose their jugular?
Wrong.
And *true conservatives* are?
I propose a solution to this mystery. It seems to me that the self-described “true conservatives” who are complaining about fundamentalist pressure on JimRob on this thread are actually Libertarians.
Strictly speaking, Libertarians aren’t “conservatives,” because they refuse to “conserve” the founding tradition of the “nation of liberty under God.” They tend to object to that God part.
They simply want to banish religion from the Public Square, and that’s the long and the short of it. They are the ones doing the “pressuring” of JimRob.
Well, that’s just my humble opinion, for whatever it’s worth.
I buy it partially. I indeed think there are a handful of Libertarians, a strange lot when it comes to defense/military issues, wasn’t aware of the anti-public-Christianity angle...
but I think there’s a much larger amount of closet FR liberals doing their very best to 5th column FR.
