Creationists Given Academic Credit for Trolling
Via LGF ^ | 8/10/09 | Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

William Dembski, the “intelligent design” creationist who is a professor in philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, has some rather interesting requirements for students of his creationism courses — 20% of their final grade comes from having written 10 posts promoting ID on “hostile” websites: Academic Year 2009-2010.

Spring 2009

Intelligent Design (SOUTHERN EVANGELICAL SEMINARY #AP 410, 510, and 810; May 11 – 16, 2009)

NEW! THE DUE DATE FOR ALL WORK IN THIS COURSE IS AUGUST 14, 2009. Here’s what you will need to do to wrap things up:

AP410 — This is the undegrad [sic] course. You have three things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 40% of your grade); (2) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 40% of your grade); (3) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 2,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).

AP510 — This is the masters course. You have four things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 30% of your grade); (2) write a 1,500- to 2,000-word critical review of Francis Collins’s The Language of God — for instructions, see below (20% of your grade); (3) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 30% of your grade); (4) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 3,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).

Strictly speaking, Libertarians aren't "conservatives," because they refuse to "conserve" the founding tradition of the "nation of liberty under God." They tend to object to that God part.

That doesn't work well on Free Republic because this forum is pro-God.

Thank you for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!

Thanks for pinging me. Every time the pull Jim Rob in to support their atheism, he shuts them down.

And it’s worth a lot, dear Betty Boop! I would only add that most libertarians would not fall for (or even tolerate) the global warming alarmism being pushed over at sites like Little Green Footballs. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to label such people “liberaltarians,” as opposed to ascribing their “philosophy” to libertarianism, which gives even libertarians a bad name!

The obvious solution to this problem of how the website is run, is for those who object so vehemently to how JR runs HIS site, is for them to simply start up their own private conservative website where all this *fundamentalist* drivel and pressure to allow creationist viewpoints to occur, doesn’t happen, or is strictly regulated by the management.

I wonder if DarwinCentral is a conservative science forum or just another science forum.

Thank you for sharing your insights, dear sister in Christ!

“They simply want to banish religion from the Public Square, and that’s the long and the short of it.”

But surely you’re not forgetting their cardinal doctrine. Pot for all.

Thank you very much, rogue yam. I’ve learned a lot from FR too. Hope to keep on learning for many years to come. FReepers are the greatest!! We have lots of viewpoints and lots of opinions and lots of experts on various sides of just about any topic, subject or issue discussed and that’s what makes it so great.

If it’s not on FR it didn’t happen!

You know, I’m pretty silent on these Creationist threads that GGG posts (even though I’m part of his ping list). I personally am an Old Earth Creationist / ID’er ... though I understand that it doesn’t matter one iota as to my relationship with my Maker as long as I put my trust in Him.

All of that said, I do not have a violent reaction to atheist articles, or Young Earth Creationist articles. I keep an open mind, and go where the evidence points.

This militant hatred of GGG and the articles he posts I think is just a sign of your conscience nagging you.

I am writing an apologetics paper right now and one of the things that struck me about discussions with atheists is not so much that they sincerely think that God doesn’t exist (though a small minority actually do not think God exists) — it is just that they despise who He is and what He stands for. Their attitude towards believers was more akin to, “If I am going to Hell, I’m taking you with me!” As opposed to the Christian who (and I believe this is why GGG posts these articles) is to say, “If I am going to Heaven, I’m taking you with me!”

BTW, I’m no dummy — I started college when I was 12 years old. I graduated with a CompSci major when I was 17. Keep your stereotypes to yourself.

This is usually true, and the reverse is often true as well!

If we went by that premise, we would lock up 90% of our school teachers for teaching evolution, big bang, and old Earth nonsense, since it all has been proven false.

What is the proof?

No. But, in this case, they are.

When does it get to be releveant or consequential?

If people are leaving the conservative movement in droves because of the creationist element, anti-science, anti-intellectual element, then theoretically, they should be ready to flock to a new site that purports to be conservative and science loving.

It seems to me people aren't leaving the conservative movement; they are leaving the GOP. I know I did a couple weeks back, when I changed my voter registration to Unenrolled (Independent).

I predict The GOP will continue to bleed support so as long as they do not get their act together. They can start by not disparaging and tormenting the conservatives who are the backbone and foundation of the party. And guess what??? People who believe in God are the majority of the party....

But xcamel's real point seems to be that anyone who believes that God created the Universe is anti-science and anti-intellectual. The statement is patently simple-minded, and utterly unhistorical.

Thanks for the great post, metmom!

When does it get to be releveant or consequential?

When it is the topic of discussion. And you will note I answered your questions(even though they were irrelevant at that point), both answers were "No".

Tantrum throwing? Your side had to go to daddy (JR) and complain that “He’s looking at me”.

Wrong. The only question about that statement is whether you're lying to us or yourself. Nobody went to "daddy" until someone said "daddy" was letting people push him around and run nhis website for him. And if you think comparing people on this site to the terrorists who killed 3,000 people on 9/11 (including at least two of our own) is tha same as "he looked at me" you've lost your bloody mind.

Isn’t one of the commandments “Thou shalt not lie”?

Physician, heal thyself.

. . . you didn’t get the memo.

He got the memo. Like other Libs, he doesn’t like it, so he believes he can just ignore it, and pretend it never happened.

Thanks, Rom. Even though I’m a YEC, I have no problem with the vast majority of Old Earthers and IDers. We agree on far more than we disagree on, and where we disagree, for the most part we agree to disagree agreeably. And you are quite right about my motivation for posting Creation and ID articles and papers. And there is a side benefit to taking people to Heaven with us: it makes the conservative movement stronger, and our country better, why we are still here on Earth :o)

Amen! We do indeed agree on most things, especially on the most important thing — who our Lord & Savior is, and what He has done for us, though we deserve none of it.

I find your articles challenging and interesting and am glad to be a part of your ping list :)

It’s been suggested many times that those who are just really unhappy with who posts on FR start their own site, or failing that, post their own articles, but there doesn’t seem to be any stampede to so so.

As you say, the point of the Darwinists is, Evolution is science, believe evolution or be against science. And then to repeat it over and over again.
