SHEIKH AHMED DEWIDAR: was born and raised in Rashid (Rosetta), a port city on the Mediterranean Sea coast. By age 12, he had memorized the Qur’an with the help of his father, Sheikh Sayed Al-Tantawy Dewidar. He later studied law at the University of Alexandria, and completed his master’s degree in Shariah (Islamic law) in 1993. Dewidar traveled to New Jersey nearly a decade ago to lead a small Muslim community in their nightly tarawih prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Only six years later, he stood shoulder to shoulder with US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary General Kofi Anan at Ground Zero as Imam of the Islamic Center in Mid-Manhattan to speak on behalf of the Muslim community to condemn the September 11 attacks. Dewidar, an instructor at Manhattanville College, made New York his home and soon established the Islamic Center in mid-Manhattan.

Is known in the Islamic world as “Sheikh Jebril”. He got the B.A degree in Islamic Law at Al-Azhar University. He learned Koran by the age of 9. More that once, Sheikh Jebril won the Egyptian and international competitions of Koran recitation. He was named as Imam of the famous mosque Amr Ibn Al’Ass in Cairo in 1988. Every year, thousands of people rush to the mosque during Ramadan to attend the Tarawih prayers that are lead by him. Sheikh Muhammad Jebril is, also, a University professor in Jordan. He has plenty of complete recitations of Koran. He took part and organised several TV shows in lots of Arab channels around the Koranic theme. At last, Sheikh Jebril is especially admired for the quality of his “Dou’as Al Qunût” (Invocations during prayer).

Remember those pro-illegal immigration marches a few years ago?
1. Many Americans were suddenly shocked by watching and learning about the thousands of legal and illegal immigrants----mostly Spanish-speaking---that were in the United States.
2. The marches backfired, because Americans were suddenly motivated to rise up and fight illegal immigration even more because of what they saw during those pro-illegal marches.
3. So I say this: I hope that millions of Muslims descend on Washington in the next few days---leading up to the Sept. 25 gathering---and that the event is heavily covered by the news media.
4. I believe that Americans should get a reality check and see how the Muslim community in the United States has quietly grown and grown over the years.
5. Maybe now Americans will jump up and react as strongly to seeing thousands upon thousands of Muslims marching in Washington as they did when they witnessed thousands of pro-illegal marchers---mostly Spanish-speaking---take to the streets a few years ago.
6. So, I say this to Muslims who plan to gather in Washington this Sept. 25, 2009: Bring it on, because such a gathering may end up motivating Americans to do something about this growing and growing legal and illegal immigration from Muslim countries.
