Stop making sense

The morning after President Obama's address to Congress on health care reform last week, Jonah Sachs sat in a Berkeley cafe and took the pulse of a dispirited half of the country.

"People working on progressive issues, with truth and information on their side -- those should be the greatest weapons," the co-founder and creative director of the design and strategy firm Free Range Studios said. "But those things are actually a huge liability. The left ends up relying on truth and information too much, and neglecting the impact of the emotional and the irrational."

When it comes to the odd, 21st-century interplay of information and emotion, truth and the irrational, Sachs knows whereof he speaks. Ten years ago this month, he and his childhood friend Louis Fox founded their firm, with the idea of offering progressive organizations the kind of savvy creative services that big corporations benefit from regularly.

...The shortcomings appear to have caught many progressives by surprise lately. This was meant to be their moment, after all, having suffered eight years of devastating setbacks under Bush. And it's not just that this is their turn. A critical mass of data now seems to support a great many of their long-held positions; they were right on climate change, right about Wall Street regulation, right about key missteps in the War on Terror and right that the health care system is wildly broken.

And yet the left is losing. Not clearly winning, anyway. It's a baffling fact to many, after all that post-election momentum, and when so often the opposition rests its arguments on distortions and demonstrable absurdities -- a sphere where counterfeit birth certificates and threats of Muslim/Hitler/socialist takeover are the coin of the realm.

I love good satire.

How about this truth—the Constitution is intended to limit government.

Liberals live in a Looking Glass World. Up is down, black is white, superficial liberal platitudes are the “truth”, etc.

The left? Progressives? Truth and reality?

The TRUTH is what will put the Left out of business.

THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING I'VE READ IN A WHILE!

When has the left EVER told the truth or used factual information. It must be fun to be this blissfully ignorant.

Translation: The fact that there is no way to defend Democrat intentions has now become apparent. Therefore they must declare their lack of intelligence as a benefit, rather than allow it to be acknowledged as a liability.

Example:
Conservative to Liberal: Hey - that parachute is torn up.
Liberal response: It’s supposed to be - you just don’t understand. Now jump!

Only a total moron could conclude that Bush was detrimental to liberal causes. Prior to 0bama there was no one who did more to grow the government, especially the welfare state, than Bush.

” A critical mass of data now seems to support a great many of their long-held positions; they were right on climate change, right about Wall Street regulation, right about key missteps in the War on Terror and right that the health care system is wildly broken.”

Let’s take those one at a time:

1) Climate change.
OK, they’re right. The climate IS changing. What it is not doing, is changing based on human activity - and therefore there’s no reason for trillions of dollars of spending. Dems lose.

2) Wall St. regulation.
So, why didn’t the Dem Congress, in power since 2006, do something? Oh that’s right, the Dems are just as complicit as the Republicans. Nice try, but no cigar.

3) key missteps in the War on Terror
Which ones? The decision to attack Afghanistan? The War in Iraq has almost been concluded successfully, despite 0bama undermining the effort before his election. Torture? The jury is definitely still out on that one.

4) the health care system is wildly broken
I would say instead that our tort system and our control of illegal immigration are broken. Too bad that the current administration could care less about fixing either.

In short, the author is clueless.

""They need to have the right narrative to pass on, encoded as a meme -- an idea or nugget of thought or way of seeing the world that, once it's implanted in somebody, becomes self-replicating."

In other words, lie and brainwash.

If any friend of mine took his suggestion of sitting down and saying to me, "Here are fifteen points Obama wants you to hear about healthcare", he would be waiting for an orthopaedic specialist-Or possibly, the Medical Examiner.

I think it’s important to realize that the vast majority on the left believe they are doing good, just as we on the right believe in our views. What I mean is, I’ve reached the conclusion that it is impossible to reason with the left. No doubt they feel the same about us.

It’s also pretty clear to me that there is little middle ground left to be had. For example, if you believe abortion is murder, how can you reach a compromise with someone who thinks abortion is nothing more than another reproductive health service, sort of like cutting out unwanted tissue like a tumor?

Or, how can one possibly square the concepts that the federal government has the right to take whatever it wants from whoever it wants and distribute for what it sees as the common good, versus people who believe in the right of private property?

Again, these folks honestly believe they are doing the right thing, that they are good and moral people who are fighting against evil (us). We are either going to split, or one side is going to end up defeating and suppressing the other, cause we aren’t going to win this culture and political war by reasoning with them.

I thought it was satire, as well. I just had a dealing with a lefty ‘christian’ who thinks I am coldhearted and told me I needed to learn ‘love thy neighbor’ because I told him that it is my responsibility to be charitable not have the government do it for me. Their sense of fact and truth is way off.

Wow, you are so right this is freaking funny, like Alice in Wonderland funny. The left has always been the base of the mommy party, and never had logic or reason or anything close to it. They are trying mightily to paint the contitutionalists as emotional and unhinged. Wow, talk about delusional. This is rich.
