Bush: Obama Has No Clue

President George W. Bush's former speechwriter Matt Latimer reveals that Bush considered Barack Obama unfit for the White House and predicted that vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin would be a disaster for the GOP.

"After one of Obama's blistering speeches against the administration, the president had a very human reaction: He was ticked off," Latimer writes in his forthcoming book, "Speech-Less: Tales of a White House Survivor," which has been excerpted in the October issue of GQ.

"He came in one day to rehearse a speech, fuming. 'This is a dangerous world,' he said for no apparent reason, 'and this cat isn't remotely qualified to handle it. This guy has no clue, I promise you.'"

During the presidential campaign Bush believed that Hillary Clinton would win the Democratic nomination, but he didn't think much of her as chief executive either, according to Latimer, who served as a speechwriter for the last 22 months of Bush's term.

True-—I just liked the part where he said Obama has no clue, he was 100% right as to that. I support Palin so I do disagree on that point.

I wonder in what context he thought Palin’s VP candidacy would be a disaster for the GOP.

Perhaps her association with McCain would damage her reputation and affect her ability to run later on as the main person on a ticket? As a former Governor of Texas, I don’t imagine GWB would think badly of a made-herself woman like Palin.

So-o-o...Bush didn't want Obama, he didn't want Clinton, he didn't want Palin--that leaves McCain and Biden. Great judgment, Dubya. Helluva job you did there caving in to Paulson, btw.

I love it. Sarah is amazing.

When both the One-World RINO's and the entire Democrat Evil Empire are terrified of you and hate you, you know you're just about as good as good gets.

End of discussion.

Marking to read again tomorrow. This was a fun little article to read. However, assuming this speechwriter is telling the truth and not exaggerating, I don’t think it’s nice for him to reveal what GWB said in private - even if I agree with him.

I like the photo of Cheney giving Obama the “evil eye” on inauguration day. Anyone have that pic?

Sad to say it is Bush, not Palin, who was, and is, the disaster for the GOP that made Obama’s rise possible.

Well, Mr. President (nice to use upper case again), you got it half right.

The stuff that he supposedly said about Sarah has already been debunked. In the book Bush “claims” to have no clue who she was, but they had met weeks prior to her being chosen. In fact, here is a photo of Bush and Sarah together
http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?page=35&oid=27756682523&aid=-1&auser=&view=all#/photo.php?pid=30751518&op=40&o=all&view=all&subj=27756682523&aid=-1&oid=27756682523&id=1365480805

Bush actually called Sarah “Madam Vice President” during their meeting two weeks prior to her being chosen. Bush doesn’t even know who this supposed speech writer is

A Tall-Tale Tell-All [Dana Perino]

I knew Matt only a little bit. Now that an excerpt of his book is out, I’m reminded of what a veteran of three White Houses told me: Beware of the quiet guy in the room.

Seems that every administration goes through this — yes, even the Obamas will have someone take advantage of the career opportunity of a lifetime to try to feather their own nest at someone else’s expense — no matter how far-fetched their story may be.

For example, he writes that President Bush didn’t know who Sarah Palin was. That’s rubbish — Bush had just met Palin the previous month in Alaska, and he mentioned that to me literally two seconds after McCain made his announcement. So much of what Latimer claims the president said don’t ring true to me. I was with the president for whole days at a time, through thick and thin, and I never heard him say things like that about others. And I don’t think he’s ever even said the word “keister.” C’mon.

I’m pretty sure that almost everyone who worked in the White House could not pick Matt out of a lineup, and I doubt that’ll change much after this book. Speechless should have been called “Shameless.”

The speechwriter should have a talk with Doug Wead. He’s the man who recorded his conversations with W. Wead turned over all the tapes to W and sincerely apologized, but the damage was done. Wead is a historian whose written several books about presidents’ kids. He’s a good guy, but sharing private conversations is a no no.

I love Sarah Palin, too. But in an objective sense, she was a bad pick for McCain’s running mate. She was a relative unknown, immediately overshadowed McCain and proved to be a distraction. So, in that way, I agree with W’s reported assessment.
