DENVER & THE WEST
“Aurora man shocked at scrutiny stemming from N.Y. terror probe”
By John Ingold and Jeremy P. Meyer
The Denver Post
POSTED: 09/15/2009 08:18:41 AM MDT
UPDATED: 09/15/2009 08:29:44 PM MDT

SNIPPET: “Quoting an unnamed law enforcement source, the Associated Press reported Tuesday evening that Najibullah Zazi, a 24-year-old airport shuttle driver from Aurora, is under surveillance in connection with a possible plot to make homemade bombs. Federal agents raided three homes in New York City early Monday as part of the investigation.

But Zazi, who spoke at length to The Denver Post Tuesday from the doorway of his southeast Aurora apartment, said he is not connected to al Qaeda and said he has not been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

SNIPPET: “One raid was conducted at 144-67 41st Ave. in Flushing. Naiz Khan, one of the men who was questioned at the building, said the agents were most interested in an acquaintance who had stayed at the apartment on Thursday but was not there when the raids occurred.

Khan said the acquaintance lived in Flushing at one time, attending the same Afghan mosque in Queens, Masjid Hazrat Abubakr, as the five men who live in the apartment that was raided. The man moved to Colorado about eight months ago, but had returned to New York.

Akbari Amanullah, a cab driver who lived in an apartment with four other natives of Afghanistan, said when he arrived home from work afterward, he was told that one of his roommates had been taken away.”

SNIPPET: “Zazi was stopped at the George Washington Bridge on his way into the city, sources told The News. Authorities later seized his rental car from a Queens street, sources said.

In the car, sources said the feds found documents and papers about bomb-making and bombs. The massive federal response was “an indication of just how serious a threat they see this as,” said Frances Townsend, a former counterterrorism adviser to ex-President George W. Bush.”

SNIPPET: “Red flags about an impending attack went up last week when Zazi visited with several people in a single day, combined with worrisome information collected from wiretaps, sources said.”

You’re welcome Uncle Ike and good morning.

Yep, it’s like the edges of the puzzle are laid out and now the middle puzzle pieces needs to be put in to form an accurate picture.

” Yep, it’s like the edges of the puzzle are laid out and now the middle puzzle pieces needs to be put in to form an accurate picture. “

Yeah — it’s almost reaching the point where I’ll have to be careful with voicing my ‘speculations’ - lest they drift dangerously close to “loose lips sink ships” territory.....

That’s correct.
No speculation on this thread is a good idea.

I only post from public sources.

” No speculation on this thread is a good idea. “

That’s kinda difficult for me — analysis/connecting-dots/shading-in-blank-areas is what’s in my nature to do...

I’m one of those irritating people who thinks the ‘why’ is at least as important as the ‘who, what, where, when’...

‘Discretion’ isn’t usually my strong suit... ;)

Colorado man mentioned in alleged terrorism plot says he’s innocent

DENVER - A Denver-area man denied Tuesday that he’s a central figure in a terrorism investigation that fed fears of a possible bomb plot and led to several police raids in New York City.

“I have nothing to do with al-Qaida...any link or any thing with al-Qaida,” Najibullah Zazi told FOX 31’s Eli Stokols, in his first televised interview, from his home in Aurora.

“I spent two days in New York, flew back, and I have nothing else to say,” he said. “I am an airport driver and that’s all I can say.”

Zazi’s aunt, Rabia Zazi, 35, confirmed in a separate interview that her nephew recently visited the Peshawar region of Pakistan — where she said he has a bride whom he married several years ago and whom he hopes to bring to the United States.

She said Zazi was born in Pakistan but moved to the United States at an early age and grew up in Queens. He moved to Colorado several months ago to help his father with his shuttle business, she said.
