South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson seems to have set a precedent Wednesday night when he called the president a liar during a joint session of Congress.
That's the official word from House Deputy Historian Fred Beuttler, who says that though cheering and jeering between parties are commonplace, a single individual seldom steals the floor.
Yet, there was Wilson, red-faced and alone, jabbing the air with his index finger and shouting to Barack Obama, "You lie!"
As we say down South, "What in tarnation?"...
This is not to excuse Wilson's behavior, which caused him to become an overnight Twitter sensation. His offense sets a new low bar. But as a nation, we have entered a political era of uninhibited belligerence. The civility we insist that we prefer has been in short supply at town hall meetings, several of which Wilson conducted.
A review of his Twitter log during the August break reveals a busy slate of meetings with angry crowds -- 1,500 people in Beaufort, 1,000 in Hilton Head....
Was Wilson, perhaps, still reeling from these overheated exchanges in the state once famously described as too small to be a nation, too large to be an insane asylum?

WaPo is about as historically ignorant as a paper can possibly get.
Once again the liberals find it more newsworthy that the president is CALLED a liar than the fact that he actually IS a liar.
What the hell has happened to Kathleen Parker?
Exactly!
Let’s agree for a moment his behaviour was out of line, and broke decorum.
Was his anger justified? Was the President lying to his audience?
Yes or No?
I think Joe realizes along with lots of other Americans, that we have reached “Last Stand Territory” and it’s now or never.
Collegiality be damned.

I am sure Mz Parker will eat her heart out as the donations poor into Sen. Wilson’s campaign chest.
He is the new symbol of the American hero.
I hope that these unpredictable, unscripted moments ocntinue to happen. Joe the plumber’s comment, Sarah’s exposure of the concept of death panels, the town halls, and now Joe Wilson’s comment allow truth to bubble to the surface. The American people are tired of being managed, manipulated, and “handled.” Every now and then, truth seems to slip in, despite attempts to suppress it.
Brilliant observation.
My analogy is the parade where the emperor gaudily displays his new clothes.
Kathleen Parker describes the hat, the tunic, the trousers taken up at the knee to reveal the silk stockings and lastly the wonderful gilt shoes.
Good ‘ol boy Joe proclaims “the Emperor has no clothes”
As I understand it, the only contentious Town Hall meetings were conducted by Democrats...because people hate this attempt at health care reform. So Ms. Parker’s conclusion that Joe Wilson was frustrated from those meetings is ignorant.
Kathleen Parker is a needy Communist sympathizer and can’t tolerate dissent.
It is interesting how liars take offense to being identified as such.
About the same thing that happens to just about everyone else who moves to DC. They exist in some strange alternate universe where truth is driven out and lies and deception are the accepted currency.

Wrong!
I wish Mr. Wilson would say in his explanations, if he must apologize ~ and I don't think he does ~ "It was wrong when the democrats booed President Bush during his state-of-the-union speech and I shouldn't have followed their example. It is still wrong behavior."
Slap! Slap!
Sigh! /dreaming
